How does a stereotypical Jock relate to the world?
You meet someone who is known as a stereotypical jock. What would you expect them to be like? How would you expect them to behave in situations, such as getting a job, being on a date, having to get a sibling out of trouble, or getting caught in a lie?
Would they change the way they are over time, as the distance from the time when they were a sports hero grew further? Would you expect them to have any particular politics?
I don’t want any namby pamby—“it depends” crap. There is no depending. You make all the choices about this person and they fit your stereotype. There is no right or wrong here. This is more a kind of Rorschach test on your associations with the idea of the Jock.
If you were involved with a jock, as friend or colleague or romantically, what do you think would go well and where would you have problems?

The type of “jock” that I’ve experienced (the ones in high school years ago) would not do anything for anyone unless they got some sort of benefit from it. Imagine the show Beverly Hills 90210 (the original) and how rich and stuck up the “popular” kids were. That was my high school. They didn’t work because they were handed everything on a silver platter because of their “skill” and they were free to lie about whatever they liked and it would be swept under the rug. And the cheerleaders were the same.
And according to what I’ve heard from my friends who attended our 10 year reunion, the jocks and the cheerleaders still haven’t changed except to gain weight and most of them are already divorced at least once. Since most of them were gorgeous assholes with entitlement issues, that karma makes me smile a little inside.
Since that’s what I’ve experienced, that’s my perception of jocks and I would never choose to become involved with one. Sorry if it doesn’t fit what you were looking for.
Probably pretty poorly since they have a face full of balls all the time.
“Jock” usually translates to narcissist in my mind.
The “Joe cool”, I am so athletic, suave, too sexy for my shirt type.
Blech!
Since I’ve been an adult, I don’t concern myself with stereotyping people much.
well seeing as how sports is one of the most world wide productive industries and everyone I have nearly known in my life has played sports or continues to play sports well in to their adult lives, I’d imagine they relate just like you do.
They own businesses, marry, have kids, get divorces, file bankruptcy, drive cars, go to church, don’t go to church, get tattoos, wear the same red shirt as you, volunteer at food drives, hit children, yell at other drivers, some go to jail, some become presidents of banks…..
What do you mean typical jock? Do you mean the Hollywood version of a typical jock or do you mean your typical version of a jock? I always thought of them to be just like the punks, preps and any other pigeonhole that gets branded on to people by others whom do not understand them.
One bad apple does not spoil the entire tree.
One drop of dirt does not make the entire ocean dirty…..
I think the stereotype comes from ‘jocks’ walking around at school proud of themselves at a time when most are just confused about themselves.
Booze, sports, cars and cheerleaders?
I have no idea. I’ve never known a ‘jock’. And I’ve never wanted to.
How does a stereotypical blond relate to the world?
seriously?
Let’s see. There’s a jock I went to high school with. Don’t know if he was a stereotypical jock, but he loved baseball and was the pitcher for the high school team. He went to Pepperdine with a full scholarship and ended up becoming the head coach several years later. He still is. Makes great money, has a sweet wife, two cute kids, a job he loves, gets to meet celebrities and travel the world. He’s a really nice guy. Sounds like he’s relating just fine. Does that fit your stereotypical jock qualifications?
Well, Kris Humphries is an idiot, whose brain runs on squirrels.
