Where has this Christmas song been and how did I miss it?
Last Christmas by Wham. I heard this Christmas song for the very first time today. I have played it about 10 times. I love the words and I love the drum beat. This is rare for me to say for a song that I believe was recorded in the 80s? I thought good music had been forgotten, but not this song. I see it has been covered by at least 100 other singers and now I know why. Question: have I been out to lunch for the past few years and somehow missed this Christmas song? I intend on adding it to my frequently played list. This sounds like a song that Kool and The Gang should have recorded.

It’s an old favourite played consistently over many a xmas since it’s release in 1984.
The song was beaten to the UK xmas #1 spot by Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Xmas charity single.
It remains the biggest selling single in the UK never to reach the top of the charts.
It gets played at least 150 times before the end of October here in the UK. Maybe you have been on a different planet?
I still cannot believe as much as I love and listen to music, that I have never heard this song….ever!
I thought that maybe it was recorded in the 80s and thanks for that information.
I am going to have to quit listening to Frosty The Snowman and get caught up with some newer Christmas songs and artists.
Bongo——sir, you may be correct on the other planet. I am down to earth now and thanks.
Actually, thank you for pointing me to the original artist. I’ve heard so many versions of this song, that I’m glad I found the first one. I don’t want to sound like an originalist, but this is the best one.
This is definitely not the direction I expected a question about “Last Christmas” by Wham! to take. What a pleasant surprise! I only slightly embarrassed to say it is one of my top 25 Christmas songs.
(Am I the only one who isn’t seeing a link to Johns articles and songs?)
@Dutchess_III (I’m not getting it either. Maybe he’s not singing loudly enough.)
Now it’s stuck in my head. Thanks, John! Good song, though. :)
