Why do people say "I Love You" and knowingly they do not mean it?

Asked by john65pennington (29273points) December 20th, 2011

How many people have been in this situation? Was it just a drug or alcohol-induced frenzy that made you tell someone this and not mean it? Or, is it only when players are playing and those three words are as commonplace to say to them as thank you? I ask this question, after watching the music video of Wham and their hit song Last Christmas. It was very obvious that she loved him, but he was there only for a one night score. Question: how can a person tell another person they love them, do not mean it, and live with themselves? I never was in this situation, how about you?

You’re asking questions about human behavior after watching a music video? Just curious if you think it has any relevance to real life or not, John.

Uh, John, did a 16 year old girl hijack your account?

The business term is “public relations”.

I’ve done this. And I did it because he said it to me, and I was 16 and foolish and didn’t have the guts to tell him, “I’m glad you feel that way, I just don’t yet. I’ll say it when I do.” I regrety my dishonesty.

I love you can also be stated as I love you right this moment (as a human being that I have a good time with and that I hope to have an even better time with later on).
Edit to add: Also, there are languages (maybe other than English although I am not sure if English hasn’t) that have multiple versions (and therefore meanings) of (I) love (you).

Hmmmm, a lot of variations here.

I’ve never said it to anyone where I didn’t mean it and of the people who’ve said it to me, there’s only one where I doubt his sincerity at the time. I believe most people try not to say this lightly.

Jill, no, I am still in control. Maybe I still have Valentines Day still on my mind.

They want something they are not getting and think that saying, “I love you,” will make it happen.

They say that, guys, because it is like the magic words, “Open says me”. They were after the poor lass’s virginity, and once they score and have that bragging right, she is no longer a virgin so it is off to find the next one.

I suspect women say it because they are a lot like cats. It is better to have to or more cats together, than one alone. Women say it just to have some guy around, even a douche, because they get cabin fever if they have to go it alone.

@Hypocrisy_Central I think you and I live in galaxies far, far away from each other.

Some men will say anything to get some sex.
