I would be driving from Montgomery through Troy and Dothan towards I10 in FL.
Is the road two lanes or four? Does it go through small towns with traffic lights?
I’m trying to decide whether to travel that way or take interstates going around Atlanta.
Thanks.

1) not a freeway
2) around the cities, four-lane divided highway but lot of turns and crossovers
3) outside the cities, varies from 2-lane to 4-lane divided, just depends where you are
4) yes, traffic lights galore. But some of the towns are interesting to drive through
5) Take the circle road around Dothan – it’s longer but much less hassle than driving through town.
If you have the time, this is a historically interesting drive. If you are in a hurry, go around Atlanta.
@elbanditoroso Thanks!
I drove on that road years ago and had regretted it. But it was so many years ago I thought it might have been expanded and altered by now. We will not have any time for stopping, it will be a very long trip and we will be hauling a trailer.
Hauling a trailer? Stay on the highway. Bits and pieces have improved (widened) but definitely not the whole way.
Humid with a thick accent?
@elbanditoroso We have friends who have taken that route, and it seemed nuts to me (they are hauling a trailer also) so I thought I would ask someone on fluther for advice. Our friends tend to avoid large cities, like Atlanta, and also if one of them decides it is best they all tend to follow along without even looking at a map. My husband and I go a different way than they do on many trips. I am not worried about going around Atlanta on the Southwest side, I don’t ever remember having much trouble there in the past.
Thanks again! Really helpful.
