How do you generalize yourself?
If I asked you to describe yourself in just a few key statements, would you tell me your gender, or your race, or would you indicate the gender you find attractive? Would you tell me about your political beliefs? Your favorite poem? Your job?
How do you think your answer colors the way you perceive social interactions? Your resentments and secret prides?

I am higher than God. And that is being modest.
I am Blondes Motherfuckin’ Jon.
I’m an engineer.
———————————————————————————-
Now let’s see what that says about me. Statistically speaking, I’m probably a white, male. I’m also most likely married and have a reasonably good income.
I am dependable, can fix anything, will look at things a little differently and will readily analyze a situation before just jumping in.
Yep, “I’m an engineer.” works for me.
I’m just some guy. Lol. This means I don’t think too highly of myself :/
I’m Alaina, but I go by Lainey. I’m weird. That’s pretty much it.
No, but I do prioritize myself.
You: Hello.
Me: Hello.
You: Can you describe yourself in just a few key statements?
Me: No.
So I’m just saying my answer is always colored by my social perceptions. Generally I experience resentment that you even bothered me when you aren’t really interested. And you put me on the spot; I hate being embarrassed. I’m embarrassed because I can’t think of anything to describe me in just a few statements. I always think, what does that mean? Describe what? My personality? What words are supposed to be used to do that?
so that’s the type of answer you’d get out of me. I seem to be an over-thinker. And totally lacking in vocabulary. And refinement.
I would probably do something along the lines of @DaphneT – that is, look at you with a “really? are you kidding?” expression and raise an eyebrow. However, also as @DaphneT said, it would depend on how you asked it. And who you were. And my initial judgment of you. I tend to overthink a little too. And I’m proud of it.
If I am in a position to tell someone a few key points about myself whether it is a general introduction or I am starting a conversation usually through e-mail or some other form of electronic communication I generally state my age, where I am in my schooling, what my major is and what I intend to do with my life. Those are generally enough to get a conversation started and get it to a point where we can move out of small-talk. :)
I’m funny and smart and likable.
I’m nice, sweet and smart.
I am annoyed by generalization and oversimplification.
@filmfann agreed, but I asked how you see yourself.
Quiet, yet very passionate about the things I love.
My profile info, including my favorite links and quotes (provided) descibe me very well. Outside of that I’m generally very quiet and reserved, until I get passionate enough about something to run my mouth forever about it.
I have been thinking about the best way to answer this but I am a multi-faceted human being. My perception changes depending on which facet I view myself from. In each realm there are positives and negatives to my personality. I would need more than a few lines I think.
I’m the type of person who prefers to be addressed as “Rocket Man” or “Major Tom.” I believe I’ve earned it.
I think Major Tom works best for you @ratty. Not sure why… I can just imagine you floating in a tin can far above the world.
Weirdly, the first thing I think of is “I’m a redhead.” And really, I’m much more of a ‘grayhead’ these days, anyway. Maybe because that was always the thing that set me apart when I was young?
So, I’m a redhead, a mom, and I love to read. I’m also a liberal heathen, but I usually wouldn’t mention that straight off the bat. ;)
I’m a happy fucker, which is nice.
I usually say my name and my age (I would hope you would be able to tell by my appearance or voice that I am female). I would then, probably, mention the things that mean a lot to me like animals (dogs especially) and the music I like.
I think that sums me up quite well. I may also mention what I do for a living but it would depend on who I was talking to.
Oh yeah, and I have my mom’s red hair.
I have a hard time describing myself to people. I think generalizing would be even more difficult. =/
