Please Help! Yacht wedding.... Gray or dark suit?
Hello everyone. Long time reader first time asking and I need your help please. I am attending a wedding today, both ceremony and reception will take place at a Yacht. Ship is set to sail at 6pm. Do I go for the Gray or dark (navy) suit? Fyi…. The invitation does not specify dress code. Thanks for your input.

What about navy and white? For example, a navy jacket with white pants and shoes.
I wouldn’t do grey.
A seersucker would be cool if you have one.
Love the introduction!
I’d go with the navy suit. It’ll go well with the boat theme and unlikely to clash with the groom or groomsmen (who could well be wearing grey).
@wildflower, thank you for the kudos. As far as I know the groomsmen are wearing black. I see your point about the theme, I didn’t think about that, good observation.
If you’re escorting someone, I’d first call to ask to see what they’re wearing so that you don’t look like you’re on a blind date.
Aside from that, a yacht wedding would in my opinion be lighter colors, but still somewhat formal. Bear in mind that it may get a bit nippy so layering may be appropriate, you don’t need to compromise comfort to look good. It’s more important that you feel good in what you’re wearing. There’s nothing worse than wearing something that’s just not you, it’s a real mood killer.
That having been said, I wouldn’t recommend a Speedo or wetsuit under your clothing.
@peedub, thanks for your response. Actually grey was my first choice. However I have been debating due to the “time” of the wedding.
@deezer: you got me…. There goes the speedo then! valid points thank you. You brought up my date, well she is in the wedding her dress is black.
If your date is wearing black, you can wear either colour. I still vote for navy, but if you want to brighten it up a bit, you could always do something with the shirt, tie, even handkerchief – and perhaps wear deck-shoes rather than dress shoes.
In fact, why not bring a jumper/sweater and if it is a rather informal setting, lose the jacket and tie the jumper/sweater around your shoulders – proper preppy-goes-yachting :)
Well, DeezQ made an important point. You should really wear what you feel most comfortable in, especially since you weren’t given a dress code. I’m kind of a cheezball when it comes to classic looks and would probably show up resembling a cast member from The Love Boat. If I can give you any solid advice, it’s to wear or incorporate some light colors. If your navy ensemble doesn’t fit this, go with the gray.
Wildflower has a good idea. Some blue and white Sebagos would be cool.
Or perhaps a V-neck sweater, bright tie, light-colored slacks and deck shoes…
@peedub: Love Boat….. Classic indeed LOL
@wildflower and peedub: you guys are pretty creative (considering its 2:31am) thanks for your great ideas. I have much to think about. I knew I could count on
myfellow flutherins.
Thanks (although it is 10.38am here – so I am on my daily coffee binge). Good luck :)
You’re welcome, and since you’re no longer a Fluther virgin we expect to be seeing more of you, although not necessarily in the biblical sense.
Have a good time!
By the way, it may well be that your date will be bringing other clothes to change into, ask her if she’s wearing something secondary to the wedding attire. I think the consensus is that you should go for a tasteful free for all look, if that makes any sense.
I also admit to liking The Love Boat. It’s also past noon where I’m at. Frightening if you think that wildflower and I are your future.
