What is your name for the hungry ghosts?
Every religion, philosophy, and system of mysticism has a name for what the Buddhists call hungry ghosts. Hungry ghosts are beings eternally trapped by samsara – the Hell of the senses – where they are driven eternally by the need to devour, never sated, never ceasing in their desperate, blind pursuit of material things. In Kaballism, the empty husk which remains when all meaning and spirit has vanished is called Qlippoth, a sort of energy vampire which seeks fruitlessly to fill its internal void. In “Heart of Darkness,” Joseph Conrad refers to them as the “hollow men,” through whom you could punch a finger to find only a light coating of dust.

And, it isn’t just about materialism, it can be a the hungry ghost of power, control, knowledge, prestige, anything that props up the false self and feeds the illusion of superiority.
One can even be a slave to the hungry ghost of altruism, giving, helping to bolster ones own self image instead of genuine altruism which is self-less.
That reminds me. I missed breakfast…
Lol I love how ’‘republican party’’ is in the details. XD
I know what type of ’‘ghost’’ you’re talking about, but I didn’t really ever think of a term to encompass the type, since, as you say, every part of the world and its beliefs/myths all have their own names.
I know there’s a term for old Scandinavian beliefs, where the crew of a sunken longboat comes back as a ghost, eternally seeking whatever it was doing in the living. If Vikings were known for plundering places, then it would be a good example of what you’re talking about, ecxept I can’t remember the word. All I keep getting is Viking metal bands. :/
For this type of ghost, I don’t really have anything original…eternally damned? Maybe the headless horseman syndrome would also count, ecxept there’s a solution for him. Hrm.
I think so. What I read about were Vikings who specifically died at sea, and Wiki says that there was a distinction between sea draugr and land draugr, so it must be related?
War mongers and wealth addicts.
