How many men do you know who read their horoscopes? How many women?

Read mine everyday and had one reading.

I was amazed at how much this woman knew about me. I gave her no clues and arrived in plain street clothes and only answered yes or no.

She told me my dads name, my mothers name and that my occupation had something to do with the law. She also told me that my mother in law would be dead before the first leaf fell that year and she did die, just the way she predicted.

How did she know these things?

Probably you are correct, this is more of a woman thing. I knew a woman who went at least twice a week to a “psychic” to have her cards read. She spent 30.00 each time she went. This “psychic” kept telling her what she wanted to hear, that some guy she was “in love” with would eventually fall for her. Ten years later, the guy still doesn’t know who she is.

I don’t think I know anyone that reads their horoscope. I mean, I might, but if they do it I’m not aware of it.
My mother in law goes to a psychic. She insisted that I go to see her psychic, because she is so “accurate.” Trying to be a good sport, I forked over $20 for this dummy to tell me that I was going to divorce my husband and that I would be pregnant within 6 months of my reading. That was easily 5 years ago, and, still no spawn. Pfft, could have at least been entertaining for $20.

None. Can’t imagine associating with anyone that foolish.

I’ve read them just to laugh at them. Does that count? I’ve never once had an experience as disturbing as @john65pennington ..

I don’t think I know anyone who reads their horoscope. I have one female friend who went to a psychic once, while she was at the beach. She was pretty impressed, but I don’t think she ever went back.

I don’t know many who read horoscopes, but I am an Aries, and we Aries don’t believe in horoscopes or astrology.

I don’t know anyone who reads horoscopes or gets their fortune told, with the exception of pagans. Paganism, in its current form, tends to be more women than men due to its focus on reclaiming either specifically “the feminine” or things that have been viewed as feminine (non-objective spiritualism, connection with Earth/nature, etc). This is especially true with Wicca, one of the more dominant forms of paganism in the Western world at the moment. So, in regards to paganisms, there’s definitely more women than men partaking in those activities, because there’s just more women than men in pagan religions. But outside of paganisms, I don’t really know.

I’m male, and I read my horoscope daily. I’m an amateur astrologer myself and have taken the time to learn something about the subject.

The only person I know who is into that fortune horoscope stuff and takes it really really seriously is my Mother.

I actually don’t even know one person who reads horoscopes daily.

I myself read them maybe once a month. I don’t really believe in them, but I believe in zodiac predictions. Twisted.

@Hawaii_Jake, are you in any type of association where you bump into other enthusiasts? Do you find it is mixed gender?

I am starting to get the vibe that men are doing this more often than I thought, but not mentioning it

@chyna, @Aethelflaed got me thinking as to spirituality in general. You have mentioned before you go to church. Do you see a larger number of women or men attending?

@Imadethisupwithnoforethought : I belong to a few online association where I interact with other users of similar interests. Some are blogs and some are websites. I’m not aware of any Q&A websites for astrology.

It’s an ancient art/science which probably arose in Egypt. The god Thoth is given credit for inventing it, and also writing among other things. He is known as Hermes by the Greeks and Mercury by the Romans.

The important thing to know about the astrology you read in the newspapers is that its rubbish. It’s based on ideas promulgated at the beginning of the 20th century and has no basis in the history of the study.

If a person knows their date, place, and time of birth, then they can find what’s called their rising sign. Reading the horoscope for that sign is the key. When you read about houses and signs or planets in houses, it only comes out logical with a rising sign to start with.

I read mine everyday :) My ex said it was nonsense, but surprisingly he had his horoscope sent to his phone every day… He downloaded an app for it. The horoscope site I go to has been always very accurate.

I am male. I read my horoscopes both on Yahoo and in the paper. I also get my “Horoscope for couples” emailed to me. As far as I know, I am the only one who looks at it each day, male or female.

Regarding your gender assumption, the “Couples Horoscope” I get via email is directed towards women, it is evident by the way it is worded.

I read mine for the fun of it. I know they’re just generalizations that can apply to any astrological sign on that day, but I read them just out of curiosity. Today, my horoscope (for Aquarius) read “Tonight is yours for the taking”. Any night is mine for the taking, as long as I want it. Lol.

I have no idea whether or not any of the people I know read their horoscopes or not.

I don’t know if my husband reads his daily, all I know is he sends me mine or reads me mine every so often. I don’t read mine with any regularity, maybe once a year, or when he sends me my horoscope, which might be four times a year. I don’t think anyone in my family does, although it would not surprise me at all if one of my aunts in particular used to read it daily. She really likes the horoscope stuff.

My other friends I have no idea.

I used to, a lot. I still somehow believe in signs. Which is funny because I’m an atheist.

I like reading snarky ones. Definitely not daily.

This is just another pseudo scientific notion that many people have fallen for, I don’t think it’s gender related. Maybe if we compared two different countries, though lol.

As a teen I used to read my own horoscope but stopped after a little while.

@Imadethisupwithnoforethought I see more women at my church than men. I think because the majority of the women are pretty old and their husbands have died.

I am not sure, but I’ve definitely chatted with both males and females who read and/or take their horoscopes seriously.

As for human fortune tellers one can go and visit, I am not sure if I know anyone, male or female, who takes them seriously.

@filmfann I love what you said about Aries people. I am an Aries, too. I read horoscopes for fun, but I don’t take them 100% seriously. Err, if I take what you said seriously, is that a contradiction…? ;)

I’m somewhat of a paranormal enthusiast when it comes to ghosts, esp precognition dreams but I have very little knowledge when it comes to things like astrology, horoscopes, numerology, etc. I can’t say that I ever took my daily horoscope seriously since the predictions seemed like nothing more than hit or misses, with the majority of the time not even coming close to matching my life situation. From my experience it seems that women are more into this than men are and I only looked at mine after someone telling me to.

One thing that I did find odd was when I went into a little further detail and decided for the fun of it to research horoscope readings a little further and I found that the summary given for my exact date of birth matched me to a tee. I considered this odd since most people do not have a life situation or live like I do. All I can say is “I don’t know”. Not my area of interest personally.
