Do you make a point of carrying a pen with you?

Only at work. I don’t need a pen anywhere else, really.

I usually have a couple of pens in my purse.

Yep: I have a pen in every jacket I own, and several in each bag. I’m always surprised when I’m the only member of a group to have a pen.

Thanks to electronic devices, it may not be as necessary for several people to carry around pens these days. I don’t make a point of carrying a pen or pens around anymore. I am pretty sure I have done that in the past, though. I do like having something to carry. To make myself comfortable, I’ve taken to carrying around a bag I can carry on one of my shoulders. I also like having things in my coat pockets that I can play with like bus transfers and receipts.

You bet. And in particular I am thankful for it’s small size.

The pen, you know, is mightier than the sword.

I carry a pen most days, not because I need a writing instrument as such but because since I stopped smoknig I like to have something to keep my hands ocupied.

The only thing I would ever conceivably need one is for signing receipts or whatever and the business involved usually supplies one so I’ve gotten out of the habit.

If I ever need to write anything down, I’ve got the note taking app on my phone.

I also got out of the habit of wearing a watch since it’s made superfluous by my cellphone. It took me a while to realize it even after I got my first cell years ago. I was just wearing the watch out of habit.

But when it broke, I realized how silly it would be to buy a new one since I always have my phone with me, especially when I’m out of the house.

I’m an engineer. I always carry a small 0.5 mm mechanical pencil.

Inside is a strip of nichrorme wire. Shhh,... Don’t tell anybody.

I carry multiple pens in my bag for class.

No, but I make a pen of carrying a point with me.

I try to but I will either have 15 pens in my purse or none at all.

I have handfuls of pens in every bag I own… and even then… sometimes I find myself penless. Usually when I think “I won’t take my bag”.

I like to steal pens from hotels too. Well not steal… although my husband refers to me as a kleptomaniac since I cannot leave a hotel room without taking every complementary thing in the room. Including pens and notepads.

Always, because I also always have a book of sudoku puzzles in my pocket, to keep me from dying of boredom on the bus.

I always carry a pen in my purse & a pen in my car. And when I go to the gym at the “Y”, I also carry a pen in my gym bag. ( you just never know when you might need a pen ! )

In my right pocket all the time! Habit, habit, habit. My pen, my preciousssss…

I don’t really make it a point. The fact that every conceivable place I may go has scores of them laying around makes it appear that way.

Would any of you like it if you were gifted a gold or silver pen engraved with something, say… Happy Birthday, Happy Valentine’s Day, Happy Anniversary or your name?

I love pens. I have a gold pen my husband bought for my birthday. I love it but I am scared to lose it so I tend not to use it much. I have heard pens described as ‘such a boring present’. I love them though and I know people who also love visiting the fancy pen shop… so for me it would be “oooh thank you!”.

@Bellatrix: Me too, I once had a lovely engraved pen that was stolen along the way and I miss it. I was thinking to gift someone in the near future but not quite sure if it would be appreciated or used.

Oh, I am so old. I always have a number of pens, paper and stuff that old people carry.And yet, go figure, I never have a Kleenex. I have a cellphone, so I don’t need a watch, but I feel naked without my Mickey Mouse watch.

I do. I don’t have one of the smartphones or tablets yet, and somethings need to be written.

Is there a really nice pen shop near you? Perhaps on your next shopping trip with this person, feign interest in going in there and see their reaction? You will soon know if lovely pens are their thing or not. My husband would not thank me for one. They aren’t his thing. A previous boyfriend used to love going to the pen shop to mooch about though.

Oh my, I just looked and the price of a solid gold Cross pen is a whole lot more than in the 80’s!

@Bellatrix: I’m going to do just that while we look online tonight under the guise of graduation gifts for the kids.

I must have a dozen pens (cheap or of unknown origin) which migrate from my car to my computer, to the phone, to the table at which I do puzzles (and eat, read the paper, etc), sometimes to the kitchen and to my purse. Some days, my purse has accumulated 5 or 8 of them; some days, there are none. Every so often I round them all up and redistribute them.
I don’t know how they do it. I never notice them moving.

There’s not a day that goes by when I don’t use a pen. I buy them in bulk.

I will make a confession here. When I was a little kid, I used to take other people’s pens from their desks (a teacher’s desk, at an office somewhere, etc.) and walk away with a grin on my face. It was a naughty habit of mine. :D

Yes, always. It’s either one in my bag, my coat pocket or a small one in my jeans pocket.

Even with the convenience of electronic devices, perhaps it is my age..but yes I carry a pen and small note pad in my purse.
