This article was funny and provides some natural alternatives and techniques short of calling in the pesticide patrols. Here is the intro so you can get the flavor:

“My first experience with a silverfish, not to be confused with a silver fish, was in the shower where they’re commonly found. There I was, under the warmth of the spray, soaking in the mist and humidity while I gently soaped my soiled body. Oblivious to everything, I felt a sudden wriggling under the arch of my foot. So naturally, being an overweight hairy dude, I jumped, dropped my rag and screamed like a little girl. Luckily I was alone in the house so no damage was done to my street cred.”

Oh, dear. The honeymoon is over? Is there an association that oversees the pest pests?

Ask neighbors? And remember, now you are building equity. I have had every other bug, but no silverfish yet. I would think you’d want to deal before they mate and multiply. Google first; exterminators usually use Draconian (and toxic) measures.

@marina: Great article!

I wonder if it’s worth it just to hire an eco-friendly exterminator to get the lay of the land in my house…I have no idea where they’re coming from. Maybe I’ll just spray cloves everywhere.

@Andrew Eco-friendly is good. Remember what the article said though. Infestations of silverfish spread slowly so don’t panic. You could try some of the suggestions, and then escalate to pest control if need be.

I hate the things!

On first site of any bug in my residence, I go purchase the latest and easiest to carry home extermination spray. And then I spray every baseboard, corner, dark crevice, etc. in the home/apartment. No pets or children in my home so I have no worries of causing harm.

@mr: there is YOUR health, of course, unless you don’t breathe for several days..

I don’t want squirmy bugs in my shower. Risk I will take @gailcalled.
