Do you know of any active AI programming contests?

Over the summer, I competed in this programming contest to design an AI to play a complicated version of rock-paper-scissors. My bot ended up in about the top 25%, but there were enough other entrants that I didn’t make it past the first round. It was fun, and I am looking for another contest that I might be able to enter.
A Google search for this returns a ton of past contests, many of which sound fun (like a battleship-playing AI), but ended a while ago. Most active contests that show up are way too advanced for me, such as passing the Turing test. I am looking for something where the basic strategy is simple, but there is a lot of room for improvement. Since Google failed me, I am turning to the help of the collective.

Hmm, I believe most universities have similar engineering related contests usually in the Spring semester or latter quarters. Try going to all the local colleges website near your place and select engineering department accordingly.
I’d heard of an AI programming contest a few years ago. It was held at some research facility by the name of Aperture Laboratories. My friend Caroline went and took her daughter, Chell, with her. I believe they were having “Take Your Daughter To Work Day” the same day and the labs had some children’s’ learning activities planned, as well. The funny thing is I never heard from her again. Of course, I’m not paranoid. I’m sure nothing nefarious happened. Before they left, Caroline told me this place was fairly well known in research circles. But it just seems odd how she fell off the face of the earth after that. Oh well, friends lose contact with each other all the time these days :-(
