Has anyone here tried drinking apple cider vinegar to clear up acne? I heard you can either drink it (like a shot daily in the morning), or put it directly on the skin. Supposedly it clears up acne and breakouts.

It’s considered a nice mild non-specific tonic, if you drink 1 t apple cider vinegar in 8 oz. of cold water. It certainly can’t hurt.
Go easy on the vinegar; a little goes a LONG way. I drink it like this often, particularly in the hot weather.
Splashing it on your skin will do no harm, also, other than leaving you smelling like a tossed salad. it is not a cure for acne or pimples however.
@gailcalled – So drinking apple cider vinegar WON’T do anything for acne or blemishes :/ ?
It can’t hurt. Try it once a day for a month. You have nothing to lose.
The alleged benefits of a vinegar cocktail are listed at the end of this (one of dozens if you Google “vinegar tonic): http://www.grandmas-wisdom.com/health-benefits.html
However, you do need to use an organic vinegar with the mother at the bottom; Bragg’s is the most common and is sold at all health food stores.
I’m not sure if you’re going for the a natural cure or hoping for inexpensive, but there are way more potent and high-tech things on the market right now. If you want results, quickly, I’d go for the OTC stuff or see a dermatologist. Otherwise tea tree oil is touted as the most effective natural remedy.
I haven’t tried it for acne, but I did use it to lose weight. 1 shot in the morning, swiftly followed by something to wash it down… because it’s frikkin foul!!! It did help me lose weight though. I used Bragg’s Raw Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar.
Braggs is good for many things, but, be careful, it strips the enamel off your teeth of you don’t dilute it and/or don’t rinse well after taking a shot or two.
Topically it would have an astringent action to help dry up acne.
My mum uses cider vinegar with a spoonful of honey, then topping up with half hot water and half orange juice… but she uses it for warding off rheumatism! (She also insists I have it if I’m ever ill, it’s her one-stop cure-all.) :-)
When I remember, I drink a large glass of water with a one teaspoon of Bragg’s organic vinegar, a splash of organic grape juice and some ice as a daily tonic. For nothing in particular and for everything in moderation. One teaspoon is enough; the vinegar is powerful.
