Have you ever discovered how great a band is years and years after their peak popularity?
I’ve heard of Oasis before, and I heard a few singles randomly, but I had no idea how great they were until now when I actually had time to sit and listen to their music. So, when I get home, I’m going to use all of my iTunes gift cards on them.
What about you?

Yes, I did that with Queen.
Considering the Beatles were before my time… Then I’d have to answer yes.
Eve Six. <3
They’re “old” for music standards. But I love them. :)
Genesis. Didn’t really like them much until after they broke up.
Just this afternoon I played a 2CD of The Kinks was years ago since I did that again and I appreciate them more and more every few years I listen to them.
Sunny Afternoon
I just came across Walter Egan.
I’m not going to count the multitude of bands I like who’s popularity peaked before I was born. It’s not like I had a choice to be late on liking bands like that. The bands that I was just slow to get into would be: Blur, Depeche Mode, NWA, Pavement, Sneaker Pimps, The Dandy Warhols, and The Libertines.
The Cure, Journey, Queen and the Beatles— I didn’t really get into them until college where friends introduced me to their songs.
The first two records by Billy Joel are bad ass.
The very first Bob Seger album is rock n roll and space.
Soul Aslyums first record was raw and punk.
Traffics first record was great also.
I am not in to much main flow stuff so this is a hard question to answer.
Whenever the current music scene is disappointing, I just go back to the music I grew up with looking for bands I missed or only heard on the radio. I’ve discovered or re-discovered a few bands this way, including Cracker.
Chicago was this way for me. I really discovered their great music in the late 70s and then collected all of their music.
Technically this happens all the time. I listen to a lot of music that was created years or even decades before I was born.
@SaviorFaire I love that song!
Virtually every band has been like that for me because of my extremely small hometown upbringing.
I had stopped listening to the radio when my kids were really little as I was chasing after them 24/7. The only band from around that time that I’ve recently come to appreciate is Coldplay.
Due my age, that happens to me all the time. I like all the music that was out when my dad was in his twenties, and yes, Oasis and Queen are just two that I discovered and loved. Bob Marley, Elton John, Micheal Jackson ( though strictly, he was still in the spotlight), Frank Sinatra, Van Morrison etc…
Ryan Adams
I never even heard of him until I saw the movie Elizabethtown. He had a song on the soundtrack.
Then, a very generous fellow jelly sent me copies of all his albums (god bless you Gary – whatthefluther).
Now I’m a huge fan.
Bruce Springsteen
I grew up in the 80’s so it was all that Born in the USA stuff (which I could not stand) and I wasn’t interested enough to explore it further. In college I heard Nebraska and everything was different after that. To this day it’s one of my top albums.
Yes, very much so. In fact, Iv’e been meaning to ask this very question; ever since I first heard the album ” Crosby, Stills & Nash ” some months ago. Just great stuff.
Another one- Earth, Wind and Fire.
Yes, I went to see America earlier this year and was blown away by their live performance. The 70’s and my childhood and summertime came roaring back! They may be older, but they have amazing vocal harmonies!
Journey, the Beatles, Train, Queen, Billy Joel!!!!, Bon Jovi, the Who, I could go on and on…
Yes, this happens to me sometimes.
I didn’t become a fan of the Rolling Stones until the late 80s. They are one of my favorites bands now.
Etta James. Nat Cole. Patsy Cline Kline?
I’m to young to remember the career peaks of most of my favourite bands/artists.
@jazmina88 If you want a great live show, see CSN.
