How much does a one way flight to Hawaii cost?

You can get a NY to west coast fare for 200 to 250 if you shop. And you can get a one way seat on Alaska Air from Oakland or San Jose for $198 for certain periods.

I have no idea about car transport costs.

Expect at least a 20% increase over the mainland on everything you buy in Hawaii.

Maybe this will all work out after all!

Figure $400 to $900 one way from JFK. They recommend shipping a car ONLY if it is low mileage and relatively new. ( Cost for shipping from Los Angeles or Oakland to Honolulu is about $1500 ).

Will not guess for household move. A few hundred to several tens of thousands.

Is a 1995 Geo Prizm considered relatively new?

Not new, 2008 to 2012 would be new. A Geo Prizm in probably worth retail $1800 to $2200. So it would not be worth paying almost that much to ship from mainland ( NYC) to Hawaii. Buy something when you get there.
