How can I safely convert mpeg-4 to mp3?
I was gifted with a digital picture frame and as well as photos, wanted to import music downloaded from ITunes which are in an mpeg-4 format. The digital frame insists on mp3. Is there a user friendly way to convert some of the ITunes music for importing to the picture viewer? HAPPY 2012!

You can do this in iTunes.
Go to preferences. On the general tab, then click on import settings and a new box will open. Change import using to “MP3 encoder”. (Also change the quality setting to max while you’re at it). Close the preferences box and the go to your music. Select the music you want to convert and highlight it. Right click and in the menu that apears there’s an option to create an MP3 version. The original version will remain untouched.
Lightlyseared has the best way.
You can also use Super, it’s a great converter for all file formats.
But what the hell do you mean “safely”, there isn’t any danger to anything you plan on doing.
@XOIIO :: There is if you google the answer. Most of the free conversion tools that rank highly on google are littered with malware.
@johnpowell Still, that isn’t a problem with an antivirus and common sense. Oh well
Apple’s Quicktime. Click Export and the format you want to save it in.
How many songs do you need to convert? If it’s just a few, it’s probably easiest and simplest to buy the MP3s from Amazon for $1 each.
@HungryGuy True, but who wants to spend money when they can do something for free?
While I personally use either SUPER or MediaCoder, those are a little tricky; almost like driving stick. Since you are even asking this question, I will wager that you need a simpler solution, and as much as I loathe iTunes, it is simple.
@XOIIO Common sense? Thanks for the laugh!
