The following example might be a true one I am not sure if I have seen or read it or one that I imagined one time.
A writer is on his way to his publiser (or editor) with his finished manuscript, when suddenly a gust of wind blows it all paper sheets into a canal.
Needless to say that this is a disaster for the writer given the fact that it was a, one-only, handwritten script.
What would have to be happening to be a relative disaster for you?

I live in a high wildfire/forest fire area. The worst that could happen to me would be to be burned out.
I have had a few scares and losing property and homes and animals to fire has to be one of the more devastating scenarios.
Anything else health related. I can’t take any more!
Losing any of my fingers… career over, eek! (Okay, if I absolutely had to lose one, you could have my right hand little finger, but that’s it, okay?)
Family/relationship, health and work related. If any of those goes down I may as well not be around anymore!
I have a lot that could be lost, and I don’t mean “just financially”. It doesn’t bear thinking about; instead I try to enjoy what I have, while I have it.
If one of my children were seriously, permanently injured.
I can think of one that is looming for me. Having to listen to a friends relationship breakup. It’s coming, any time now. lol
Someone stealing and pawning my music/dvd collection. I’d lose my shit
A personal disaster for me would be brain damage. Because I am so ambitious, brain damage would hinder a lot of things I have going for me.
A relative becoming gravely ill.
Losing any one of my loved ones, or bunches of them at once.
I don’t think I would survive. I’m too susceptible to depression. Yeah. That would be a disaster, too, although I have survived it once.
Any of the stepkids getting pregnant or getting someone else pregnant.
I’ve had a disaster similiar to the one you described @rebbel. I lost all my work ( nine chapters) of a novel of mine I was working on, and I was devastated. But other than that, getting an incurable illness, or having a disability that would make me depend upon others.
I’ve never experienced a personal disaster on that level, that I remember. I would think that to be labeled that type of disaster the work/item/event would have to have a person put in their whole heart and soul and have it come to nothing. I watched my home burn to the ground when I was 9 and I think that colored my thinking for the succeeding decades. So I’ve never put in that level of commitment to anything. According to friends and family this is why I’m a failure at everything I try. Oh well, mediocrity is what makes the excellent stand out.
My personal disaster would be discovering oil on my property.
@rebbel Your scenario reminds me of when Ernest Hemingway’s first wife lost a suitcase full of his work. Shudder.
A personal disaster for me would be if I ended up back in poor health.
Finally getting my life together, then dying.
Having 2012 be like 2011, or 2010.
Like @filmfann, I most fear having a stroke. I imagine understanding what is said and not being able to communicate in any way. I’d rather die than be helpless and trapped in my own body.
