How come Amazon does not charge half price for calendars after the New Year?

Asked by jca (36062points) January 4th, 2012

Barnes and Noble reduces its calendars to ½ price after the new year. Border’s used to do the same when they were in business. Most book stores reduce their calendar prices after the new year in order to get them out. How come Amazon does not reduce calendar prices to half price after the new year?

Online commerce is different from offline commerce. Amazon already sells things at reduced prices. Look at this 2012 calendar, for instance. It’s being sold at 40% off. Do you expect them to now sell it at 80% off?

I don’t know. I just go get my annual desk calendar at Barnes & Noble.

Why should they? There are still 361 days left this year. If anything, they should reduce the price by 5/366.

I’m surprised calendars still even exist!

Very simple. They know from past experience that they will sell them eventually at full price.
