What is the difference between cloud hosting and managed hosting?

It is very abstract to me.

Well managed hosting is where your files or content (or whatever) is hosted on an external server, and it’s managed by someone else. Managed file hosting is something that places like GoDaddy do.

Cloud hosting (which really isn’t an “opposite” for comparison to managed) is where your stuff is hosted in the cloud (a virtual environment on the web easily networked and integrated with other systems). Cloud hosted stuff can still be managed, by the way. A good example of cloud hosting is offered by places like www.etransmittal.com.

“Managed” is describing the type of handling for your hosting. “Cloud” is describing the type of environment for your hosting, so they’re not mutually exclusive.

That’s the basics of it…. I think :)
