How do you pick your apex or do you even bother?

Asked by Adirondackwannabe (36713points) January 5th, 2012

I live on a road without a single straight stretch anywhere. Constant curves, so it’s a little challenging. Do you consciously look for the apex of your curves when you’re driving or just stay between the lines? I’ve wondered about this ever since I outdrove a guy in a BMW on a curvy road because he didn’t have a clue.
As always humor or funny stories a plus.

Huh, interesting. I stay between the lines. I like how when you’re driving, you can go 10 minutes and then snap back to reality and realize you hadn’t even thought about the road for that long, it becomes almost instinctual!

You want to know where I learned this from? Gran Turismo….....Haha. When the coast is clear, I start from the outside lane (or as best I can), go in close and hug the inside, and come out at the outside lane.

@Blackberry I knew we were brothers separated at birth. I love doing that. Speed limits be damned.

@Adirondackwannabe Definitely :) It’s just a smoother turn.

@Blackberry Did you have any guidelines for corner speeds? We always used those suggested speed signs and figured double it and add 10 as a max limit.

@Adirondackwannabe I never had a guideline, I pushed the limit a few times with speed and corners, but I just go by when it starts to feel like it might slip lol. But your limit seems a little excessive….....lol.

@Blackberry It worked, most of the time. :)
