What are the current clothing trends for middle aged women?

I am wondering what current “affordable” fashion trends are popular with women, ages 35 to 60. Like, if I were to own a boutique and sell women’s clothes, what brands would I want to carry?
Also, I also want to know specific things that are “in” right now. For instance, I heard that things like feathers, animal print, and 70’s style are all trendy right now. Let me know your thoughts…

As far as I can tell in Australia anyway; layering, stripes, block colours, asymmetrical seams, and chunky jewellery. I’m trying to find a picture of the styles I mean but I’m having trouble, I’ll get back to you.
I am in the age range you are thinking of marketing to. I can tell you that I would not wear animal prints, or feathers, or 70’s style.
Women in that age range want fashionable clothing that is comfy and fits well. Jeans, slacks, more solid colors that crazy prints (but trendy colors – this spring, the color is that orangy peach.) Nice chunky jewelry with colored stones. Cute shoes with a small heel, but enough of a heel that it is clear they are wearing heels.
Fit and styling are more important that trends that fly buy. Remember, women that age can afford more expensive pieces – but we expect the quality of the clothing to be better and last longer.
I’m also in the age group you mention. I wear the currently popular skinny jeans, but would never wear feathers or 70s styles. I’m sure some people in that group would wear animal prints, but I’m not one of them. Maybe in shoes, but not clothing. What I find helpful is clothing that somewhat follows trends but is cut for an adult rather than a teen. Like jeans… we don’t like to have our ass-crack hanging out, you know? Or classic pieces with a modern update.
I am also in that age range. I don’t know about brands, but I want comfort. Slimming styles with a bit of stretch and soft comfortable fabrics. Lower heels on feminine shoes. Layers are great when you are having a hot flash!
I wouldn’t wear feathers, and only would wear animal prints in a very limited way, perhaps a scarf or cuff on something. As for 70’s styles, perhaps a subdued bo-ho, peasant, embroidered tunic type top might be fun and a bit nostalgic.
This is from my wife and not me…..............
“Wearing clothes that make a person look and feel younger”.
We both fall into this age category and we never buy older folks clothes.
Most baby boomers, a very large population of the people right now, are not ready to give up on their younger years. They are looking for clothing that makes them look as young as they feel.
Just a thought.
For the age range you’ve listed as being middle aged, a lot is going to depend on climate and what price range you want to market to.
Where I live for example, teens through 60’s share a common look of $200.+ jeans, hip length tank shirts, high heeled sandals and Coach bags. You often can’t tell the general age of a women if she’s got her back to you- same clothes, same hair, same tans.
I’ll 2nd @partyrock‘s choice of WHBM. Are you wondering what women in your age range actually shop for/where?
I’m 45, I shop WHBM for casual dresses, BCBG for cocktail dresses and Ann Taylor for casual dresses, casual pants. Work suits & outfits are mostly Anne Klein or Ann Taylor Loft.
@partyrock: Thanks. It was a lot of hit and miss to find brands with consistent sizing/fit and quality I liked. JCrew has gorgeous dresses I stalk for sales.
