NSFW - Do you think future tech that could satisfy all our needs be bad for humanity?

Asked by mazingerz88 (29220points) January 6th, 2012

Say, virtual tech for example. You go in a room and gets to choose whatever kind of sexual scenario you want to experience. The tech is so advanced you can’t tell the difference. Could this kind of technology be even allowed to operate?

If allowed, what would be the signal events that things are heading the wrong way? A declining population?

I think it’s a bad idea. Many people already have porn addictions and other behaviors that isolate them from real human communion with real people and leave them in a fantasy world of their own design.

Preoccupation with fantasy is indicative of many serious personality disorders from a psychological perspective, and fantasy escape is often used as a way to avoid true intimacy with others.

With the advent of the internet era and the gaming addictions so many younger peeps are engaged in, we already have a large segment of the population that prefers isolated “activity”, to healthy inter-relatedness.

I see it as a bad thing, yes I do.

I wonder who gets to clean up the mess afterwards?

We are built to strive for things. If all of our needs were satisfied, we would move less and less, think less and less, basically turn into vegetables.
