Have you been to a World's Fair or Expo?
Are they worth attending? I know one is coming in Canada soon, but I am not aware of others.
Should I make an effort to take the kids?

I lived in Vancouver when Expo ‘86 was there. I had season’s tickets and I loved it (I was 14 at the time). I would go again in a heart beat.
Yes! Worth attending with or without kids over 7 years old. They are too sophisticated for kids younger than that, I thought.
Once, ‘51 in London. Was not impressed by Victoria’s Crystal Palace and going there was quite a strain on my old bones, so I never visited another one.
I went to the “62 World’s Fair in Seattle, and the ‘64/‘65 Fair in Flushing Meadow. Both were a blast, I remember them well.
The ‘62 had an IBM Pavilion where you entered your birth date on a punch card and it spit out (about 30 seconds later) how old you would be on January 1, 2000. How could a machine ever do that?
The ‘64/‘65 had an ATT pavilions with PicturePhones! They looked just like the ones in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. And the GM exhibit said we’d have driverless cars by the end of the 20th Century. They’d be under speed control and not crash because of built in radar.
I attended an international lantern festival in Taipei Taiwan 2 years ago during Chinese New Year. There were floats and lanterns for every country and that years theme for the Taipei sports arena was world peace. That kind if counts, but, not really, so, my answr is technically no. lol
I went to the 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee, with my parents. I was about 22 years old. It was one of the most memorable things I’ve done in my life. Not only because of the memories I have of doing this with my parents, but because of the things we saw.
This was the year King Tutankamun’s artifact’s and mummified body when on tour. We stood in line to see this. The Chinese pavillion with its artistries was fabulous. We stayed the weekend in neighboring Gatlinburg, Tenn., and went for three days and still didn’t get to see everything there was to see.
Yes, by all means go. Don’t pass up a chance to do things like this in your life. Especially with your children. Regardless of their ages, I say go with them. All of my siblings and I were grown and/or married at the time. My dad and mom made the effort to take us separately or in groups to see the World’s Fair while it was so close to home that year. I bet they must taken five groups of us at separate times for two or three days at a time. I’ll never forget it.
Good stuff, @zenvelo.
