Any advice for an American moving to Edinburgh?

I’m about to take off for Edinburgh indefinitely, with no job or housing! Woo-hoo! (Don’t worry, an English friend is moving with me.) Any tips on seeking work, where to live, places to avoid for safety reasons or how not to embarrass myself? Do any Jellies inhabit this city?
