For professional events, what do you think music fits best? Upbeat? Slow? I play a lot of indie/folk but I am not sure people would be happy with it.

I think at a funeral I wouldn’t do so much indie or folk, unless it was somber.
What the hell is a “professional” event?
I think it depends on the event. Wedding? Danceable. Cocktail party? Instrumental. Music that you can talk over.
It’s an event that helps people with sexual assault
“If the shoe fits, wear it”
Old saying that applies to many situations.
Happy events require happy music.
Sad events require slow songs
Some events require both, like a marriage.
These decisions are up to you to know the difference.
I only read your last line at the end of my answer.
No matter what music you select for a sexual assault, that song will forever be remembered by the person assaulted. Each time they hear this song, it will remind them of a dramatic time in their life…...so, select carefully.
Suggestion: how about “You’ve Got A Friend”? James Taylor.
I’d go with classical at an event like that. Something light.
I’d go with some slow, new age type music, or George Winston piano music, something peaceful like this .
This is not an event for live music, unless you play quiet bass or quiet guitar.
Are you performing a solo, or background music?
How does it help people? Is it a talk? A demonstration? Therapy? What you’ve said so far really offers no clue about what goes on at the event, and that’s what you need to know if you are going to find music to support the activities.
What activities will happen at this event? Who is running the event? What have they told you they want?
I’d go by the age of those attending and the theme of the event and mix it up accordingly.
