Where should I sit at the Metropolitan Opera House?
Hello! I’m in the process of buying tickets to see an opera with my mom at the Metropolitan Opera House in NYC.
They have orchestra tickets in row F still available, and I think they are nearly too good to be true. Is row F “too close” when you are seeing an opera? I have never been there before.
My mom has a bad neck and I don’t want her to have to look up a lot. Do you think that row F is far enough back that she will be able to easily take it all in? Will it be too loud in those seats?
The other options are way farther back. For those of you that are familiar with this venue, do you think row F is too close? It’s on the side, but pretty close to the centre aisle.
I’m excited :) Thanks for your help!

I haven’t been in years. If F means row 6, that typically is not considered an ideal seat, I am assuming it is not priced as high as the “best seats in the house.” I like to be at least 10 rows back in any large theatre. 20 is better. Hopefully someone who knows, or remembers the theatre seating well, will answer also.
If it is a last minute and these are the best seats to choose from I would go ahead and buy them.
On the seating plan of the Met it doesn’t show clearly where F is, but as @JLeslie assumed, it probably is row 6.
It is not nice to get a painful neck, sure, but it might weigh up against a (possible) great experience of attending an opera in a venue such as the Metropolitan.
And then again, evening after evening probably, row F is filled with people (as are rows A till E), so it can not be that bad.
Enjoy!
Thank you @JLeslie and @rebbel for your help!
Yes, I think you’re right that F is row 6. The other option is row X (so, row 24) so I’m trying to decide which one to go for.
Thanks again :)
I don’t think close is a disadvantage for the opera. But row X sounds not so bad either. Anywhere in the orchestra should be terrific views.
Row 24 sounds better to me. Are they both towards the center? Let us know how it goes.
