How do I get my mobile/cell to allow me to answer questions on Fluther?

Asked by harple (10455points) January 15th, 2012

I use Opera Mini 4 as an internet browser on my phone, and can access fluther as harple no problem. I can read questions and give good answers/questions. I can also read AND respond to PMs. But on answering questions, when I click on “answer” my page simply re-loads, with my answer still in the text box. (I don’t see any preview of my answer as you do via computer, but I wouldn’t expect to see that via mobile, would I?)

I also can’t ask questions from my mobile, but that doesn’t trouble me as I’m less likely to need to do that on the move. I have tried it on 3G connection and on wireless, but no joy.

My phone is basic, (nokia C3) but as I am using it through the internet browser, I don’t really think it can be related to the handset, can it?

For what it’s worth, on other sites, such as facebook, I can post comments and it works. What it does do there is re-load the page with my comment in the comment box at the point where I have finished writing the comment, before I hit the “Comment” button. There is no similar re-load on fluther when I finish writing the answer, only AFTER I have pressed “answer”. And yes, I have tried pressing “answer” again at this point, to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you accessing the mobile version of Fluther?

Perhaps try to bypass the mobile version by accessing the links I use (I really dislike the mobile version and find it buggy)

Test it out and see if it helps.

I surf Fluther from my phone (a Droid X running Dolphin Mini) all the time. I actually do see the preview of my answer; it acts exactly like my desktop browser. As well it should, since I went into the settings and told it to since the mobile versions of most sites suck :p

Hmm, thank you both… I’ve checked and those are the addresses my phone is accessing… It’s most odd! I guess it must come down to the browser I’m using (I use the one I do because the one that came on the phone didn’t function properly on my online email). I do like it though for it’s good shortcut navigation…

If I remember correctly, it could also be an issue with your data plan. I had a limited data plan, and my phone acted exactly like yours.

If you use Skyfire as your browser (available from android market) you can set it for desktop rather than mobile version so that may work better for Fluther.
