Why is grape jelly so popular? What is your favorite type of jam/jelly?
I much prefer strawberry jam over grape…. what is it about grape jelly that is so popular? It seems to be a standard in peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Habanero Orange Marmalade. Mmmmmmmm
I’ve never understood the appeal of grape jelly. It’s always raspberry for me.
Home made chokecherry or mulberry or mulberry/chokecherry.
I once heard grape jelly is popular in restaurants because at one time it was thought that fewer people were allergic to it, but I could be wrong.
I like strawberry the most. But I do enjoy Orange Marmalade.
i love blackberry, then strawberry. sugar free for the diabetic
I like grape jelly pretty well, actually. Maybe it’s popular because it’s fairly non-offensive to most people? My favorites are those little teeny apple jelly packs they have in diners and Polaner’s All Fruit Seedless Strawberry Jam. Yum!
I personally prefer jam and I like black raspberry the best. It is interesting but grape jelly does not seem to be particularly popular here. I don’t even remember seeing it in the grocery store, I will look next time I go and report back. If it is there, it certainly is not given the prominent position or shelf space it is given in USA stores and I don’t believe it is Welches!
Grape jelly is the worst. I like blackberry and raspberry.
I seriously want to know why grape seems to be the go-to jelly, though.
Probably the cheapest? I’ll find out and let you know when the internet comes back on lol. If it comes back…....With all these websites going black, do you think they’ll come back? Lol.
I like grape because I don’t like seeds or globs of fruit in my jelly. I also like the flavor
Marmalade on toast. Strawberry jam on porridge.
I had a pb&j sandwich for lunch and wanted to share that I used a most delicious sour cherry conserve. Very good. Saw me right through till dinner
I’ve never even seen grape jam before… it’s not the norm here I suppose. My favourite jam is Strawberry, and orange marmalade comes a close second.
Peach/cherry jelly…
if you know what I mean
Silly @ANef_is_Enuf ! You’re my favorite jelly!
I am also very fond of Apple Butter.
I doubt this crosses most people’s minds, but I prefer grape because it never has seeds.
Apricot. I try other ones, but always come back to apricot.
I liked grape jelly as a kid. I don’t know when or why I abandoned it.
Isn’t that the same thing @Hain_roo ? I thought it was just that the Americans called it Jelly and British call it jam?
@MilkyWay
I think jam usually contains parts of the fruit flesh itself, whilst jelly is just the extracted juice of the fruit + pectin.
Also, jam is what musicians and bands do together sometimes, whilst a jelly can also be a member of this site. ;-p
Oh wow, I learnt something new today. Over here, this is jam, and this
is jelly…
Here your jam is ‘preserves’ and the other thread wouldn’t open for me.
Grape is the only flavor of jelly that I really love, but apricot jam is pretty great too!
Maybe it’s because grape and strawberry are the top products of Smuckers/Welch’s? And that’s what most moms use to make sandwiches (or at least that was my experience in primary school.) Even the smell of grape jelly makes me want to gag. Strawberry less so, but I really only prefer when it is homemade with fresh, ripe berries.
My favourite is apricot jam, especially when served with toasted bread and cheese :)
Grape is my least favorite. I haven’t bought grape jelly in 20 years. lol
Not really a fan of strawberry either.
My favorites are Blackberry/ Raspberry jams, apricot jam and the local honey.
I used to love grape jelly when I was a little kid, but now it’s just too sweet and cloying.
I like orange marmalade the best, boysenberry jelly second best and strawberry preserves (but not the sugary goopy kind with the big chunks of strawerry). Trader Joe’s makes a really delicious strawberry preserve. Any of the seeded berries like blackberry or raspberry or boysenberry make terrific jelly. I guess I like my jams and jellies a little bit more tart and less sweet than grape jelly is.
If you want to taste a fantastic food combination, put a little bit of orange marmalade on a tortilla or a piece of toast with some feta cheese! It’s one of my top 10 flavor combos : ) And if you really want to make a gourmet wrap, add some fresh mint leaves and some chopped hazelnuts to that tortilla with the feta and marmalade.
My favorites are lingonberry (can be purchased at Ikea), huckleberry and orange marmalade. Lemon marmalade’s also really yummy but hard to find.
Grape jelly is great, but I’ll always love raspberry jelly the most.
apple jelly, strawberry jam
I always thought jam was not as gelatinous and had fruit in it. And if you live in Australia, jelly means jello, the official name being Aeroplane Jelly. Go figure??? It gets really confusing sometimes.
Raspberry jam (inside a buttered Fisher’s scone—hot).
Oh, I also love quince jelly. It has a floral taste that is delicate and lovely.
Grape jelly is simply disgusting :(
Apple and cherry FTW ;)
Brb, gonna go eat grape jelly right out of the jar
