What is the best Lazy-boy recliner model for a guy who intends to spend days playing video games, drinking and simply vegging out in front of theTV watching movies and the History channel?

Asked by mazingerz88 (29220points) January 18th, 2012

How would a fabric covered Lazy-boy chair compared with a leather covered one? Which model is the most comfy and the one that could possibly fit two people making out? Lol.

Could you go as far as recommending a fabric design or leather color along with the particular model? Thanks so much…

I used to sell La-Z-Boys, so I know a little about them as long as my memory holds.

Leather will last longer, unless you have a cat. They like to eat leather, and of course, they like to claw fabric.

There’s no best model to recommend. There is, however, a way to tell if one model is right for you. Sit in the chair at the showroom. Your rear end should touch the back, and there should be no gap between the backs of your knees and the chair. In other words, the chair should cradle your legs completely. If it does that, then chances are it will also fit your upper body, too. Your head should have a soft cushion to rest on when the chair is reclined.

I agree leather will likely last longer, but it also is freezing cold in the cold, and sweaty hot if you tend to be sweaty and hot. I have sworn off ever buying leather furniture again for a family room. Meaning any piece of furniture that is used frequently for long periods at a time, as opposed to a piece of furniture that is rarely used and there more for looks. I’d rather replace a cloth chair more often and be more comfortable. The cloth is generally less expensive than the leather anyway.

I can’t recommend a specific model because I am not familar with their models. Even if I was familiar it would depend on your height, leg length, so you prefer softer or harder cushions. You really have to go sit in them to know, you can’t buy it sight unseen. If you are buying without trying, I would say the most important thing is to know what seat depth is comfortable for you, I hate a seat that is too short, where your knees bend perfectly at the end of the seat when your back is comfortably against the back of the chair. You can get the measure from that from your current furniture if you have to estimate it.

This is the best question ever, and I’m going to follow it. This may be me, soon.

I think it’s time for a trip to the furniture store… and lots of planting your butt into random chairs.
For the record, my cats never bother my leather chair. However, it does seem to retain body heat.. which is unpleasant in the summer. And, it’s startling to sit on in the winter.

The Lazy-boy store is but 10 minutes away so I’m off, not to buy but do ocular inspection and butt comfortability test. Went to their website just now and after “hours” of matching different models with a gamut of various fabrics and leather colors, settled on this model.

Although I don’t know whether its going to be fabric or leather at this point.

@JLeslie is right. Leather costs way considerably more than fabric. The Ultramarine leather I like is around 2T compared to the seemingly nice fabric design which is less than a thousand. Those posts mentioning some differences between leather and fabric were helpful.

Thanks all for the great tips jellies, you’re the best!! : )

@tedd Envy because I have time to goof off these days or is it the chair? : )

Get a LEATHER La_Z_boy but sit on them in the showroom first. Fabric is a huge mistake in my opinion. But fabric ones feel softer to me. And watch out for that new leather on top stuff. It’s super thin and LaZBoy might not even sell it.
We had taupe ones and they were so pretty but after years were too soiled to keep so now we have dark navy.

Personally, I prefer fabric to leather; it just feels softer. Though I’d go with a big overstuffed sofa rather than a char so you can stretch out, both while slaughtering zombies and escaping from mad AIs with inter-dimensional weaponry, and while sucking face (or other anatomy) with your favorite human.
