Can you help me understand what's going on (worker's comp)?

Asked by Facade (22937points) January 23rd, 2012

I’ve had a lower back/hip injury for a while, and I started a new job last week. On my first day, I aggravated the injury pretty badly when moving some files. I mentioned it to my boss just to let her know that my mobility would be limited and explained what happened. I’ve, since, put a hold on working there and am having a procedure this week to help my back.
Anyway, I got a voicemail from an insure company this morning. The lady wants to talk to me about the “incident.”
Can any of you tell me what to expect, or what they want? I just don’t know what’s going on…

I do the workman’s comp stuff at my office. Obviously if you get hurt at work, you need to give a statement. Just common procedure.

They will want to make sure you are getting appropriate treatment, as well as knowing what happened so they can report it to the insurer.

If you have had the injury for a while, this company just wants to make sure it did not happen at their workplace.

Just write out what happened with your back, previously, and sign it. That should be it.

It will be an interview just like any insurance would say if you wrecked a car, They will ask you questions of how it happened, was you boss aware of your injury prior to assigning you that particular job. Yes I believe it will go something like that.

Sounds like the woman at the organisation wrote up the injury. Sensible thing to do in case you need to go and see a doctor and get some form of treatment.
