Would you vote for a Canadian president and vice president in the US elections?

Asked by Adirondackwannabe (36713points) January 24th, 2012

It’s the Canadian Intervention. Two guys from Canada running for our top job. Can’t be any worse than the choices we have now. Heck they even have the same problem we do. Illiterate workers swarming their southern border and stealing their jobs. How would you vote?

Yes, as long as it was her with him as running mate and I was a registered US citizen.

This is not your musical gift, @Adirondackwannabe ;-)

I don’t think a Canadian can be elected. Can they run anyway? Can Arnold run even if it is illegal for him to be elected?

But no, I wouldn’t vote for them or anybody for that matter. It isn’t worth my time and I think popular vote is irrelevant in the presidential election.

@rebbel That was a fucking great answer.

So, I am assuming we are suspending the rule that our President must be a natural born citizen for the question.

I’m not sure if I would. I think I would consider it. I am fine with changing the rules on a person having to be a natural born citizen to be president, but I have always thought they would have to have been citizens, and have lived in the US for a minimum of 20 years in their adult life, and at least 10 consecutive years before running.

But, let’s say a politician in Canada has turned around some of the same problems we have in America, I might be very interested in that, but I would probably prefer they be a consultant to a citizen of ours who believes in the actions that had been taken in Canada.

You have to be a citizen of the US to run for President.

Sure I would! If I liked their views better than the current candidates, I’d vote for little fucking green men.

I’m confused, can you do that?

JLeslie's avatar

@Blackberry No, you can’t. But, I think the question is just a hypothetical.

This is a spoof by two Canadian guys.

No, Michigan hired a Canadian to be the governor, didn’t turn out too well. If a Canadian can’t handle just one state, what makes them think they can handle 50?

JLeslie's avatar

@WestRiverrat Your going to base your judgment regarding all Canadian politicians on MI’s experience with Grandholm? Do you think how she governed was directly related to her being Canadian?

WestRiverrat's avatar

@JLeslie When she took office, my cousins in Michigan all had union jobs, by the end of her first term 3 were unemployed, by the second all five are now looking for work. According to them it was always ‘This works in Canada it should work here.’

JLeslie's avatar

@WestRiverrat Interesting. My perception was Michigan was strugglling long before she became governor. But, I am not defending her, I don’t know enough about the policies she put in place or her philosophies.

A Canadian would not be able to run for President of the USA.
