The 2012 Oscar nominees have been announced. Thoughts?
The nominees have been announced for the 2012 Academy Awards.
Who should have been nominated, but wasn’t? What shouldn’t have been nominated? What’s fine for a nominee, but a win, oh no they didn’t? And all other Oscar-related discussion.

Harry Potter for art direction? I couldn’t see a damn thing in that movie.
>The Help
>Best Picture
Hahahahahahahahahahaha
I’m really disappointed with the Best Picture nominees. Seems like they traded in the actually good movies for the ones with the proper “Oscar” material…
@Imadethisupwithnoforethought I don’t really get HP for art direction, either. Acting, actually, yes, for the first time (ok, except for HP7p1…). But art direction, not so much.
@Michael_Huntington That movie just won’t die…
Best picture Hugo
Actor: Jean Dujardin
Actress: Viola Davis
Supporting actor: Jonah Hill
Supporting actress: Octavia Spencer
Animated feature film: Rango
Cinematography Hugo
Art direction: Hugo
Costume design: Don’t care
Directing: Martin Scorcese
When the Oscar nominees are announced I am always reminded that the nominations for the Razzies will be there soon too.
I look more forward to that.
Have there ever been an Oscar winner (actor/movie) named Oscar?
And would your chances of winning one de- or increase when you call your film Oscar?
@rebbel Oscar Hammerstein II who won two Oscars for Best Song.
@Aethelflaed Wow!
“And the Oscar for Best Song goes to…....: Oscar!!! Oh wait, you get two!!”
I live in the boonies. I haven’t seen any of the films nominated for best film. I feel so deprived! :(
I desperately want to see several of them. I would love to see “The Artist” and several others.
Berenice Bejo should have gotten a nomination for Best Actress, not Supporting Actress, for the Artist.
I was surprised the Best Animated Film didn’t include Tin Tin or Cars 2.
The Help? I haven’t seen it, because everyone says how stupid it is.
Rooney Mara getting a nomination for Dragon Tattoo was surprising. Why her, and not the original actress who made the Swedish version a couple years back.
I need to catch up and see a lot of these nominees. Hopefully I can see 2 or 3 this week.
@filmfann The Help was just sorta really sneakily racist. Not about racism, racist. And Rooney Mara, probably because this version came out this year in America, and the Swedish one came out a couple years ago in Sweden. Don’t films have to be American films to be contenders for the bigger awards? (I don’t actually know)
No. Every year you usually have one or two actors who are in foreign films.
