Does your Mom know you are drinking that stuff?

judochop's avatar

it is just a fad. I remember when salt was good.

Lightlyseared's avatar

its full anti oxidants and those are bad for your immune system

simone54's avatar

I think it’s bullshit.

I’ve seen it as an ingredient in smoothies. No idea what it’s good for, but it doesn’t make them taste bad, so it’s good in my book.

vbarton24's avatar

yeah I’ve heard of it prolly the latest craze

I got the v-8 fusion acia juice before but didn’t like the taste. I had never heard of it before, I might have to give it another try.

Yes, it is one of the ingredients in Vitamin Water’s XXX flavor. I think it has a bitter aftertaste.

I agree with judochop wholeheartedly, half the things most people eat everyday keep changing from bad to good, to bad and back again over and over again… Milk, salt, eggs… No one said we had to start drinking 8 glasses of water a day until we had to start paying 2 bucks per liter.

I could take a ton of dirt, pour it into little baggies, and get 2,000 people to “testify” that my “revolutionary new product” has improved their lives 20 times over, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true.

Most people believe hype too much, if it works fit you, more power to ya, I’ve also have a friend who wanted to get in on selling it simply because the people she talked to talked the stuff up, she tried it, and it didn’t work for her.
Different things work differently on everyone, what works for the masses may not work for you.

I think it’s probably like many other fad foods – a small grain of truth blown out of proportion into a life changing/saving miracle. Yes, it has high anti-oxidant levels. So drink it in moderation like any other smart part of your diet.

One thing we got to understand is that all these promotions of these products are driven by companies who are looking to make a profit. Usually these products are sold through MLM’s.I am not denying the fact that they might be good products but they are usually over priced like a jewel, the only one of its kind. Not too long ago another fad was out. Although is still around, you don’t hear about too much anymore. Wiki has some good info about these guys. Now the new kid in the block is this company from Brazil promoting this superfood stuff. I do agree that fruits like kiwi, mangosteen, and berries have lots of benefits as far as antioxidants are concerned.

On the other hand, whenever we hear the media promoting a particular food is cos there are companies behind the scenes manipulating the media to promote sales of these products to boost sales based on new benefits found in them. I remember not too long ago chocolate was in the mass media claiming it had good effects on weight loss. Do you see how stupid that sounds, but there are many people who buy these commercials and head out to the stores to stack up on chocolate.

We can’t just jump the first time we hear about incredible claims about a particular product, let that product be proved its worth what it says it does. We need to be wiser in our decisions before we go out and spin our wheels.

I like the way it tastes. if its good for me then thats a perk. as long as its not bad for me (except everything is bad for you now/everything is good for you now)

Eat food, not too much, mostly vegetables. Not my saying but a good one to live by. Fads are just that, fads and shouldn’t be a prescription for health. No quick fix is ever going to work.

Super food does not mean miracle food.

shockvalue's avatar

I think it’s tasty, but I hardly buy the hype. ... haven’t we moved to Goji berries yet?

thetypicalusername's avatar

Blueberries are extremely good for you. Acai is even better.

bennetttomato's avatar

judochop, don’t antioxidants help remove the oxygen that has bonded to hemoglobin (specifically iron) molecules?

judochop's avatar

I think so. I did not say it was bad. Just a fad.

thetypicalusername's avatar

I believe the people who think it’s a fad don’t really know a lot about it. They are just skeptical and don’t really care to read about it. It has been scientifically tested and proven.

shockvalue's avatar

Yeah, but what does that even mean?

Cigarettes are also “scientifically tested and proven” ... to cause cancer (among many other things)

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not comparing Acai to tobacco, I’m just saying that in a world where you can literally say anything and have it taken for fact, * cough * Wikipedia * cough * simply being tested no longer holds merit. I am sure that these berries do much good for the body and mind, but so do most things when taken in moderation and combined with a balanced and healthy diet.

thetypicalusername's avatar

I mean no offense. All I am saying is, read about it before you start making assumptions.

@thetypicalusername The general rule of thumb is to eat fruits and vegetables with dark colors. These will have the highest amount of antioxidants in them the body can use for removing free radicals from damaging our cells. Dark greens veggies help our liver to cleanse better our blood from the bad stuff. Fish oils are superb in lubricating our joints. So not only berries will do your body good. The best vitamin A doesn’t come from carrots anymore, it comes from algae s found at the bottom of the ocean. The discoveries of new sources to obtain what is good for us continues, is a never ending research for scientists. Super food, the Acia is true is good for our bodies, but then why don’t we call super duper foods other things that are just as good, like durian or turmeric ? It is b/c an MLM company wants to profit from this new berry that has been in used by the Brazilians for a very long time already but not so well known in the outside world.

wait four years, it will be suddenly discovered that it is bad for you and probably causes cancer.
