Flip flops down a ski slope?
Sorry to say I do know a few.
Unholy Jesus. I hope not!
Not on the the threat of death.
I think they look kinda cute on the model, but I would never. Never.
I have seen people walking around campus that I am sure would wear those shoes.
@Fly…the Yetti shoes are something to behold!
Wow. Now that I’ve started looking, I don’t know how to stop.
@Jeruba Is it bad that a small part of me likes those?
I don’t know much about women’s fashion, but they don’t look that bad. I would expect a young woman or teen to wear them, though. They can pull it off as being quirky or “hip”.
I would rock those. Totally.
Except Lady Gaga???? Mmmm, I’ve got my eye set on a pair…..
I was thinking GaGa as well…...death traps.
Yeah. Maybe I don’t know them too well, but I know a few people who would probably wear that. Big cities like Montréal have ceased to amaze me when it comes to fucked up tastes and fashions. If it exists, someone over there is wearing it. Hell I’d probably try those out, but under a different color than purple. Those would be awesome goth shoes if they had more black, and maybe a bit of red. Purple is good too, (as would many other bright colors) but those have too much of it. But yeah I can think of two girls specifically who would probably sport those, or at least try em out.
The second link you posted is interesting too.
Jesus, they weigh TWO pounds! That’s about the weight of a set of horse shoes. I could have a kicking contest with the mules in those puppies. lol
I don’t know anybody personally, but nothing that women wear on their feet surprises me anymore. Maybe it’s a person’s own foot fetish.
No, definitely not. But I live in LA so I can see someone wearing this…. I’ve seen much much stranger things people wearing… I feel like the right person can pull it off though, there are worse things…....... like crocs :) :D
No. Though @Fly does like some, um, interesting shoes, I don’t see her wearing those!
@partyrock Hey, now… some Crocs have come a long way, baby! :p
I actually wear those tennis shoes (in white), and they are pretty cute. Not to mention, super comfortable.
My friend, Kerrie would love those! She has interesting taste but can, pretty much, make anything look amazing! I also don’t hate them myself even though I know I probably should!
I just want to share these, @Jeruba stop… I think I may have a fetish….
^ a pair of shoes on a pair of shoes…....
I love this Q! This is why I stay here.
Look at all of the places you could stash your keys, credit cards, notes to yourself, store receipts and kleen-x , and don’t even get me started on Red Vines, ear buds and prophylactics!
Yes, one for sure.
No, not me and not even if they were gifted by dear friends or my hubby.
Apart from Lady Gaga or Katy Perry… no.
So—this is the question behind the question: if you do know someone who’d wear them, or you would yourself, please tell us more about that person. What’s her overall style, how does she dress otherwise, what’s she like? I’m really curious to know who is the target customer for a style like this—and where she would wear them.
Those fur ones that @Fly linked are practically in a class by themselves. Fur boots, sure, but long-haired shoes? Boggling.
The person I know of is an under 30yrs old wife of a coworker. She doesn’t work outside the home and has two small kids. On the occasion she can go out to dinner with friends or her husband then she dresses in clunky shoes like this and what are being sold as “bandage” stretch type short compression fabric dresses. She’s very soft spoken and not flashy with hair, makeup or jewelry.
@Jeruba One of them is a goth, but always says that she’s tired of the Hot Topic variety for fashion. However she’s madly in love with huge chunky goth boots, so I figured the oddity and the size of those shoes is something she’d try out. She’s often using weird alternatives for goth clothing.
What’s she like; I don’t know her that well. But she’s always perky and cheery, sometimes overly dramatic and conceited, but in that kind of way that you’re not bothered by it, it’s almost kinda cute. I’ve heard extremely bad shit about her from other people though, but as I say, I denno her well enough to say.
The other girl I’ve known for years. She’s one of those Dungeons and Dragons people that spends all her free time playing in lives, she’s a big nerd. Her costumes don’t have anything to do with those shoes; however all her normal day clothing comes from thrift stores and stuff. It’s always all mismatched and random. She doesn’t seem to care what she wears, ever, and is always happy to show us whatever new fucked up stuff she found. I figure she’d get a kick out of those shoes, but I think she’d actually like the ones in your second link better. I say she doesn’t care what she sports, however I don’t see her wear many bright or flashy colors.
What’s she like; really tall and, like the goth girl, she’s always hyper and cheery. Since she’s into all that D&D stuff, we keep saying she’s an elf haha. She’s really nice, kinda hippy like. The kinda person that does shit for you just because, and never asks for anything back.
Actually next time I can, Imma show her those and ask if she WOULD wear the shoes. She doesn’t believe in the Internet lol, so I can’t send her a link. I know she has an e-mail, but she checks it like, every time two moons show in the sky.
Interesting! Thank you.
My husband thought they’d be a special hit with someone who’s into bondage.
Then there’s these. And the main site—a shoe museum. “For the curious,” it says. That’s us!
My friend mixes vintage with the completely bizarre and makes it look incredible. She has been a single mum for most of her daughter’s 6 years but she is due to get married soon. She is one of the hardest working people I know. She works mostly as a hair dresser in her own salon but also has a part time job as a receptionist.
A lot of people here are quick to judge very young, single mothers (she is in her early 20’s) but I believe she deserves a lot of credit for the life she has given her daughter simply through hard work and positive spirit.
Gee, thanks, @Jeruba ! Because I clicked on some of those links I am now getting some…er…interesting shoe ads on my other sites!
Here’s why I ask.
@JilltheTooth, me too. Just a few among the many curious links my searches have made me heir to.
Ha ha ha, @Fly , I just now did your museum link… Just goes to show the old adage is true…“The more things change, the more they stay insane!”
I may have not-so-hypothetically already had those ads…
The people that I know who would wear these are the types of people who mindlessly follow trends and continue to wear them for several years after they have actually gone out of style (e.g. leggings), and consider that to be fashionable. The Jeffrey Campbell Lita shoes were the “it shoes” of last year, but they became such a huge trend that people will continue to wear them for quite some time, even though their time has already come and gone. Believe it or not, this is the target market for even these fairly gothic renditions.
@Fly : I love that you know this stuff. This is so far out of my general ken that it may as well be extra-planetary!
