Does anyone ever go past page 1 when they Google Search?
I’ve never heard of this phenomenon. Ever.

Not for most mundane searches. For those, what I’m searching for are always found within the first few links of the first page.
But when I’m searching for porn, the top searches are always the same sites that use different URLs to trick Google into thinking they’re different search results, when, in fact, they all take you to the same page on the same site. So you have to go well past the first few pages of search results to find the good stuff!
@HungryGuy Interesting. I’ll keep the porn thing in mind…if ever I get into it. Pun not intended. lol
Sometimes if I’m seeking something very specific, I might go in a few pages, but never past page three.
Sometimes I do. Usually only to page 2 or 3 though.
On page 5, I give up and try a different search.
I do all the time, when it comes to looking for certain recipes, but usually not more than the 3rd page. Sometimes one preparation for say a lemon cake may not have the exact ingredients that I wanted, and if the recipe is too complex or time consuming, then I’ll keep looking.
I’ve done it too, when I’ve been looking for certain fashions like a specific type of coat or boot (especially if I’m looking for a certain price range), and one hilarious time when we were trying to help @DutchessIII look for some women’s work gloves that came in purple. I probably went to page 20 on that one!
One other time I went to about page 40 when I was trying to track down an appropriate photograph of a man wearing “Daisy Duke” shorts, to illustrate a what not to wear Q.
I like turning the page. Variety for society :)
I do often. Google will always churn up results associated with Wiki or other well known sources first, but if I look at further pages, I can find good stuff, if I didn’t want Wiki or was looking for something really specific that popular sources don’t cover. I hate when I type in ’‘ram’’ and it just gives me seventeen links to Wiki articles about ’‘sheep’’. Lawl.
Being a rebel, sometimes, after I hit the search button I click page down and push page 7.
When looking to see If my personal info is anywhere under page 50
All the time. Google isn’t perfect – why should I trust them to know exactly which 10 links are the most relevant to my search?
I do. I will occasionally click way down just to see if there is useful info there. Sometimes I will click down to page 10 or 20 just to give the little guy a chance.
I also use Yahoo for the identical search. It is interesting to see the differences.
If I’m researching homework or writing a project, I find the further back you go, the more you get to college sites with good information, or other projects on the same subject. It’s okay, I cite scources….
Surprised no one asked why this was put into Meta.
Sometimes; but if I am delving past page 5 or so, I try to find alternate search terms or other ways to refine my search.
@FutureMemory
“This section is for questions about Fluther itself. How it works, about the community, etc.”
Isn’t this considered to be about the Fluther community? Or is that drawing too long a bow?
@Keep_on_running: No, your question is about people’s usage of the Google search engine. If you asked about how people use the search feature in Fluther it would be appropriate for the “Meta” category. I’m thinking your question would be best placed in the “Social” category, because it is asking about people’s habits and preferences on a particular site (other than Fluther).
I usually stop around page 5.
Damn, can’t believe I didn’t notice that I just thanked myself…I’m so narcissistic. ~
One time I went up to page 172. And by golly I found it on page 172. (what it was, I don’t remember, but i remember bitching about how I had to go through 172 pages to find what I was looking for.)
There’s more than one page?
I sure do: five pages, ten, fifteen, more…sometimes much more.
Sometimes I go looking for difficult things that I know are not going to be high on some popularity ranking, and I can’t think of a way to narrow the search results. This is most likely to be true when I know very little about the subject—which is why I’m searching for it.
However, it’s not too often that what I wanted is that far down. Rather, what usually happens is that I can see patterns to the wrong results that I can then eliminate by excluding search terms, or else that I eventually see something close enough that I can start following chains of links.
Depending on what I am looking for I tend to go up to about page five.
Frequently, especially when doing research. If the literature on some topic is sparse, I may have to go through as many pages as Google will serve up to find something relevant.
I usually stop by page 3.
