The Drug industry in the USA is one of the most corrupt I have seen, In Asia I can purchase medicine for half if not less than what the USA charges,Cheap and affordable medicines are also in Africa, Canada and I am sure more I have not yet seen or heard of personally.
Oh yes, the drug business has to be top 5 top 10 industry in the world. Unfortunately, it’s hard to tell anyone they couldn’t take medication that was recommended by a medical doctor.

There are times when mediation is necessary. In many situations Physicians provide medication (legal drugs) when they should get people to change their Lifestyles.
I hope that once researchers really understand the brain they cure Neurological Disorders. Not drug people. Drug have side effects.
If they new what specifics areas cause the problem they could target that area and less medication would be needed.
@philosopher I agree with with you to an certain extent. I mean, there are courses in health after highschool that some never get to. And that course doesn’t take one day or even three weeks, it takes at least 8 weeks to get the material down. And with the structure of our society (American society and globalized nations thereof with fast paced lifestyles) , I don’t know when the public education will employ this basic knowledge amongst high schoolers, hopefully sooner rather then later of course. For the most part the heavy consumers are those of western societies. The eastern societies still heavily rely on eastern philosophy which is to say they still do the herbal medications, meditation and etc. I don’t believe in anti-depressants but I do believe in penicillin for instance. There’s a great debate going on right now between bacterial and viral medications as opposed to these psychological ones that affect the chemistry of the human anatomy. Of course it’ll lay in a gray and subjective area, I think what we can do is dismiss certain medications by using logic. For example, depression pills might prompt someone to get out of a funk for a while, but that window of opportunity where one might be deciding what makes them happy and what ever they are striving for worthy is a small window. I’ve literally only known two people on anti-depressants and that’s not what cured them. I tend to hear, “It just makes me feel numb” and for me that’s an indication that endorphines aren’t necessarily the key to happiness, a persons awareness and self worth might be a key, yet it is a mental and learning pain to know that type of philosophy. So I’m with you for the most part. I love that photograph of the tulips btw.

I do not disagree with your logic.
I take a yearly Flu Vaccines. I resent that they still contain Thimersol (Mercury). I know that Mercury not vaccines promote autism and other health problems. If I have a Bacterial infection I take an antibiotic. They don’t do anything to help with a Virus. However doctors still give them for viruses.
Doctors also prescribes drugs for Type Two Diabetics but they should promote diet and exercise first.
Doctors prescribe drugs for High Cholesterol but they should prescribe a Whole Foods Diet first, less Saturated Fat and Exercise.
Our Society always wants the quick fix. People eat Fast Food which consist of chemicals that destroyed the Metabolism and promote Type Two Diabetics.
People eat McDonnald’s for lunch with unhealthy Diet soda. They cook boxed chemicaly laced food for dinner.
Welcome to Fluther.
