With all these people, in a collective like fluther, people who must appreciate the internet enough to have an opinion regarding events such as wikipedia’s blackout, megaupload’s dismantling, and Kim Dotcom’s imprisonment. So what’s up fluther? What you think about Kim Dotcom?

Never heard of him or her.
I just read about him on Wikipedia. First I heard of him, and he sounds like a self centered jerk and thief. So when I see he had a file sharing site which was used for getting around copyright laws, I don’t get upset about him being arrested, especially by New Zealand authorities. The Australian and New Zealand governments have been much more vigorous in prosecuting copyright violators.
The guy is a looser/con artist/hacker wannabe. This article will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about the guy. As for megaupload, I worry about the permanent destruction of legit data that may (will?) result from this.
I 2nd @zenvelo then again, I checked out of all media years ago. I’m the old broad, I just garden and bake happy brownies these days. My activist side is plum worn out. lol
It does suck that megaupload was shut down. Since then, videobb and a couple other hosting sites totally blocked out most things, so there is nowhere to watch streaming TV shows online, which means more and more people will just resort to torrenting. As far as streaming putlocker is really the only good site, but their speed has gone down, and they might start screening stuff too.

@ragingloli read the article I linked. The guy was a shiester.
@gorillapaws
As I said, an honest entrepreneur destroyed by intrusive government regulation.
“On January 19, 2012, Megaupload, a website providing file sharing services, was shut down by the US Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This led to what Anonymous called “the single largest Internet attack in its history”. Barrett Brown, described as a spokesperson for the group Anonymous by news outlet RT, said the timing of the raid “couldn’t have come at a worse time in terms of the government’s standpoint”. With the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) protests only a day old, it was claimed that internet users were “by-and-far ready to defend an open Internet”.”
