Do you think gang violence is down in the U.S.A. due to rise of the internet?

I just feel like one day there will be a test question for American History 100 that goes along the lines of,
“True or False, gang violence declined post 9/11 due to the rise of the internet”
I don’t know if I just got older and don’t notice it anymore, or if it’s not just my notion by indeed a fact. I can’t find anything at the moment.
Also, do you personally feel in your area or know of an area in which gang violence has dropped due to the rise of the internet?

No, it’s because of a change in demographics. There’s not a bulge in population for peopelin the age groups that populate gangs. As groups age, they stop being involved with gangs for one of three reasons:
1. They’re in prison
2. They’re killed or seriously injured
3. They grow up and realize they can’t keep at it with the young turks rising up in the gang while they are looking for a more stable life.
At first glance this may sound ridiculous, but there is plausible evidence that that removing lead from gasoline and paint in the 70s and 80s caused a huge drop in crime in the 90s and 00s.
Exposure to lead lowers IQ and inhibits impulse control.
Nevin says his data not only explain the decline in crime in the 1990s, but the rise in crime in the 1980s and other fluctuations going back a century. His data from multiple countries, which have different abortion rates, police strategies, demographics and economic conditions, indicate that lead is the only explanation that can account for international trends.

No, correlation is not causation. I think it has more to do with big cities developing better community based gang intervention programs.
@jaytkay Hm, I’d argue that the rise of crime in the 80’s was due to the drop of the car industry in the west coast. A lot of African Americans in LA lost their jobs due to the rise of Japanese imported cars (cheaper cars) and gangs were born because the youth grew up through a sort of depression…
Yes, I do. I have read that gangs are finding it much harder to recruit younger members because the kids would rather stay inside and play computer games than get involved in gangs.
I even saw a request on a charity donation site to help fight crime and gangs by donating to provide free computers/game players to children in high risk areas.
It’s really dropping in the cities because you’re exporting all of the gangs out to our area. Holy crap I’ve never seen it this bad in our area before. Mostly fueled by drugs. Cops went to break up a fight two days ago in Oneonta. A 15 year kid scuffled with the police, and a sawed off shotgun falls out of his coat. Plus throw in the meth. Farm chemicals work good for that.
Plus now so much of that is being outsourced to China.
How does one connect gang violence with the internet?
