When I was in the service, I smoked cigarettes as did most of my buddies since nobody really worried about the long term at that point. Since then I quit. I have never smoked a cigar except as a desperate substitute for a cigarette. I really do not know the esthetics of cigar appreciation. But I have old and close friends that like an occasional cigar. We get together now and then, and they like a nice a cigar and a little Scotch. I like the Scotch, but I know nothing about cigars, but next time we get to together, I would like to show appreciation for our long friendship by pulling out some cigars. What would impress my friends?

I liked ‘Swishers Sweets” but, I’m a girl, what do I know. lol
If you’re out to impress the gents, go for a Stogie. :-)
I like to loiter around and smell a good cigar.
My friends are still impressed by Stogies :-)
Why are you asking us when Cigar Aficionado can give you all the info you need?
Of that list, I recommend the Illusione Epernay Le Taureau, Aging Room Small Batch M356 Presto or Robusto, and the Winston Churchill Chartwell; with the Churchill being the most available. All will be nice smokes that won’t overwhelm the occasional smoker. If you can’t find these, go to a reputable cigar shop and ask for advice on what they have.
My husband recommends Leon Jimenes. He is a Johnny Walker drinker and said to try the Leon Jimenes and make sure you have a cigar cutter.
The classic easy one is Romeo y Julietta 1875, the Churchill cut (it was Churchill’s favorite cigar, and where the name for that cut came from). Another good one imo is the Oliva V. My personal favorite is the Acid brand 1400CC, but they have flavor added so they’re not at all a typical cigar.
you know what the best cigar is? your favorite one.
