The Hollywood blacklist…was the mid-20th-century list of screenwriters, actors, directors, musicians, and other U.S. entertainment professionals who were denied employment in the field because of their political beliefs or associations, real or suspected. Artists were barred from work on the basis of their alleged membership in or sympathy toward the American Communist Party, involvement in liberal or humanitarian political causes that enforcers of the blacklist associated with communism
Black American history is full of it. Same for women in the past. Very few publishers would take on a story if they thought the person behind the story would be seen as someone making a political stand or simply not be acceptable because of their gender or color.
Margaret Sanger ran into problems when her sexual health articles and pamphlets were deemed profane. Giving women information about birth control and vinereal disease in a manner clear enough to be of help was a violation of the Comstock Laws.
Makes you want to punch someone in the face doesn’t it?
