Someone with an incredible voice. Phoebe Snow for example. And here’s an excerpt from the wikipedia biography of her describing that amazing voice:
She was described by The New York Times as a “contralto grounded in a bluesy growl and capable of sweeping over four octaves.”

I think a colorful voice is one that takes the poetry of a song, and paints a picture in your mind of what it is saying. Think of Paul Robeson singing Ol’ Man River or how a dowdy, plain chick like Janis Joplin could reach out with her voice and rip your heart right out of your throat.
Adele. Hands down. I love her.
