Have you had any experience with Pheochromocytoma?

Asked by Buttonstc (27605points) February 9th, 2012 from iPhone

If your’e willing to share, I’m referring to either personal or professional experience.

I’ve done some reading at Mayo Clinic website, but if there are any Jellies around who’ve encountered this in real life, I’d value any info they could provide.

I’m aware that’s this is a long shot since it’s relatively rare.

But it never hurts to ask and that’s what Fluther is for, after all. Thanks.

What do you want to know?

I’m interested in whether anyone has personal experience of any type in dealing with this.

Anything from diagnosis thru treatment.

My Dr. mentioned this as a possibility. I have a hunch he may be barking up the wrong tree.

Obviously, there’s a consult with an Endocrinologist in the near future and the more info I have, the better Qs I’ll be able to ask him.

Since you are an MD, I’ll ask one specific Q that springs to mind.

Common sense tells me that there could be a whole bunch of reasons why a patient may not respond to one or another blood pressure meds.

If I’m wrong and there really aren’t a whole lot of possibilities other than this, I’d like to know that.

But something this rare and specific seems a bit of a stretch. That’s all.

You’re right. There are a gazillion reasons why you won’t respond to blood pressure medications. Pheo is way down the list.

Thank you for the confirmation. And it’s not even as if there were THAT many meds tried.

And had he mentioned this among several other possibilities, I wouldn’t necessarily be asking this Q.

But this was the only possibility he mentioned and seems to be focused on it.

When I first heard it, it was a vaguely recognizable term from a TV show like Gray’s Anatomy so I didn’t question it on the spot.

After doing a little research, I’m thinking it’s a pretty far reach.
