Who sang the best version of the song, "The Girl from Ipanema"?

Asked by mazingerz88 (29261points) February 17th, 2012

I’ve heard the song Girl From Ipanema hundreds of times with a dozen different singers interpreting. Yet, when I recently heard Frank Sinatra’s version, I was floored. I’m now thinking it’s the best rendition. Do you happen to have another you think is better? Thanks.

BTW, please listen and hope you get relaxed by the great Sinatra. : )

I prefer the original performed by Antonio Carlos Jobim, the composer.

I don’t know who did it. I like the original and all, but the one I heard was more jazzy and upbeat with an excellent sax solo.

Always prefered the original by Astrud Gilberto
Most noteably due to the sultry sax of Stan Getz

Stan Getz Orchestra had the most popular version of this song in 1964.

The Stan Getz version, with Astrud Gilberto singing, was Record of the Year in 1965.
It is the definitive version.
