Are personal statements for Grad School often double-spaced?

Asked by Mama_Cakes (11162points) February 22nd, 2012

Mine was, but, are they usually double-spaced?

I know of someone who plans on writing a PS and they asked me this question.

In my experience, the majority of written documents (essays, statements, homework) that I submit to my department are double-spaced. I only turn something in single-spaced if that format is mentioned in the instructions.

I can’t imagine why. It’s not going to be graded or edited, is it? Double-spacing makes perfect sense for rough drafts, manuscripts, stage directions and anything else that’s likely to be annotated, corrected and edited.
