How would you handle this situation? You and your gf are asleep in the same bed. She suddenly screams out "oh, Jeremy" and your name happens to be Jonathan?

Asked by john65pennington (29273points) February 24th, 2012

Or, suppose you suddenly scream “oh, Jennifer” and your name happens to be Janet?

Question: what happens next?

I would say: “As long as it is not Jeremy Clarkson”.
Could also be she has played the Pearl Jam CD all night long.

Unless the SO had some reason to believe that his mate was cheating on him, he and we should just chalk it up to dreaming. We dream about all sorts of weird things, including people we know, or knew, or don’t even know at all.

No one knows if she was dreaming about another guy, but even if she was, unless she is interested in hooking up with that other guy, or is cheating on her boyfriend, it really doesn’t mean much of anything.

Also, most dreams are not very realistic, in the sense that they are not images of things that are actually happening, they’re all over the map, visually and emotionally. I don’t believe that dreams have inherent meaning. The man who’s name she called out may be someone who was chasing her, or an old friend, or a previous boyfriend (who she’s over) or somebody she barely knows, or someone she doesn’t know at all, or someone she saw on TV.

let it go.

It probably doesn’t mean anything.

If she’s asleep, I assume she had a dream or a nightmare. I wouldn’t hold that against anyone. You can’t control your dreams.

Moan “Yes, do me Jeremy.”

I think that the problem is that too many people have names that start with J – just look at your examples!

If your name started with M (Melvin) and she said “Oh, Poindexter” I would worry. But dating guys with the same starting letter of a name is just asking for trouble.

It’s just a dream, how can anyone be faulted for that. I’ve dreamed about stuff I’d be in jail for, and I think everyone has (I hope, or I’m crazy O.o).

I would mess with him when he woke up.

I would tease him mercilessly when he woke up but really not be bothered at all.

She’s obviously thinking about Ron Jeremy!

@KateTheGreat gross!!

It’s just a dream. I dream about people in all different situations, it doesn’t mean I have a subconscious desire for them. I had a dream my cat was dying – does that mean I want him to die? No!

Tie her to the bed and set the house on fire, duh!

I would whisper questions in his ear:

Janet? Which Janet?

What does Janet look like?

Are you having fun?

My son smiles, giggles and talks in his dreamstate all the time. I find it adorable.
My husband, not so much. I know I did this as a kid. My mom would ask questions. Then when I’d wake up she’d tell me all the silly things I said.

:-) @SpatzieLover. My husband sleep talks (never says anything spicy). I have tried talking to him but it wakes him up instantly and he goes quiet. No fun at all.

@KateTheGreat Ron Jeremy is actually my dad. He’s probably your dad too. We’re sisters! :D

I wouldn’t think much of it, as far as fidelity goes. I’d be curious as to what the dream is obviously, but even if someone I was involved with dreamt of a person they have the hots for and was cheating on me in the dream, fuck it. It’s not because you’re with somebody that you, or they, can’t feel especially attracted to another person. And even so, dreams are always so weird and random. I wouldn’t rely on those as a reason to question someone’s love for me, no matter the emotional impact that would make them talk in their dreams.

The only name the wife yells apart from my own is that of Jesus fucking Christ.
I’m perfectly happy with this because our shagging is truly biblical/epic…......which is nice.

Oh, darling, you’re having a nightmare. Shs. Shs. Let Jonathan take care of you.

If the person was sleeping, I’d think nothing of it. People can’t control what they dream.
