What is Fluther like, as a community?

I’ve been on Y!A for a little while but it seems like the average user over there is about ⅓ my age, especially in the LGBT section. How does Fluther compare?

We are the best. Welcome!
Ask a few questions and see what you think of the responses
There is a very broad age rage, from the youngest legally allowed, at 13, to the geriatric set.
There is a good representation of the LGBT community, as well, all of whom are candid and clear and interesting.
Welcome to fluther.
We’re kinda a massive clique. But we got massive by embracing pretty much anyone that engages us honestly and shares our enthusiasm for knowledge, silliness and the occasional knock-down drag-out debate. All in good spirit of course.
Have a pancake. Stay a while. See if you like it.
Some people are really close. Some people hate eachother. Some are sweet and honest, others are annoying and boastful.
In short, we are just like every community, maybe with a higher IQ.
Oh, and, hi. I’m a member of the queer community here and a member of the infamous trio of lesbians. We are very powerful.~
There’s an infamous trio of lesbians here? Please tell me you fight crime. :)
@tinyfaery Did your finger slip? That ~ shouldn’t be there.
A third of the infamous lesbian trio here.
A wonderfully smart of group, we are. ’
Sit back, relax, lurk, and/or craft a response, and enjoy!
Welcome to Fluther @Bent!
Read some threads and you’ll get a good glimpse of the community here.
Thanks everyone. I think I like Fluther better than Y!A already.
I’ve been here for ages and I’ve no idea what’s going on.
I’m the second (or the last, actually, since 2 of my comrades have commented) third…I’m in charge of recruitment.
As a community, it varies…but many of us are all kinds of queer so we’d love to have you ‘cause the haters don’t complain loudly enough.
We’re probably like a lot of online communities, but I think we’re a little more open minded than places like YA, and we explore a lot of different topics. I think we’re a community that has a bit more class too, whatever that means.
Maybe it’s because we’re a small one, that has to play a part when it comes to what Fluther is all about and striving for it.
Anyways, welcome to Fluther, hope you like it. Now gmee a hand nailing these boards over the windows, will ya?
Ahh, a bit of a typo in my post, but you get what I mean. :)
Fluther as a community, hmmmm . . . there are some very smart people on here who are cautious with their use of grammar, spelling, etc (in keeping with the community guidelines, of course). There are some very thoughtful people on here (including some of the smart ones) who take time to think before quickly typing a response. There are some very glib people on here who can whip out a one-liner faster than I can type. There are researchers who can find the one website on the internet that will answer your question (and they even provide you with the link to find it). There are experts in remote and distant subjects of interest to those seeking information on remote and distant things and there are folks with terrific senses humor, of grace, and of caring. There are some class acts and some jerks (who usually leave fairly quickly) and all the rest of us in between.
Fluther can be patient or irritated, the waters calm or less tranquil. There will be some #&$* questions and some erudite, thought-provoking inquiries that propel one to reflect on personal beliefs and politics. There are open-minded folks and a relatively small handful of bigots (they often don’t last long here either as the the larger organism swallows them whole).
As for GLBT related supports and comforts, there are a lot of us in the ranks/tank with a lot of very supportive folks of other persuasions. All in all, considering we are essentially self-policed, Fluther feels like a safe, gated community with warm and interesting neighbors and the occasional lunatic thrown in for good measure.
@Kayak8 I figure anyone that swims against the flow of fluther and doesn’t get swept away is a worthy member, even if I never agree with them.
We fight idiocy, not crime.
;)
We’re like a giant family who has it’s moments of fighting and togetherness.
Things can get a bit crazy, but it’s fun most of the time.
Welcome to Fluther
Fluther is a slippery bunch. It can cradle you in the warm seas and also sting you. Dive right in. The water’s fine!
And I am the fourth of the infamous trio of lesbians.
Welcome!
He’s our beard bitch!
Funniest image just popped into my head. Thanks, @Simone!
@rebbel You literally made me laugh out loud . . .
And the drag queen sweeps into the room.
Voila!
It’s a lot like Lichtenstein.
@ucme : You mean we’re famous for minting stamps? I had no idea Fluther made stamps. They must be highly collectible.
@Hawaii_Jake Nah, I was thinking more exclusive, small &......err, good for skiing?
Oh God, not another new member! Where’s my shovel? Teehee, only kidding, I promise!
We’re kind of like a giant, dysfunctional family. You’d rather be around some members more than others, and someone inevitably starts a food fight in over half the conversations. Pancakes and popcorn are popular foods during a fight.
The conversations/questions are way better here, than any other Q&A site, and the members are much more intelligent, funny, and sweet than on other sites. So there. =0)
Welcome to fluther. May your chocolate be dark, your pancakes be fluffy, and your rum be plentiful. Don’t trip and fall into the frizzer; it’s dark and full of creepy crawlies in there…
Welcome, @Bent, with a user name like that, you’‘ll fit right in.
We are notably more mature than the average Yahoo yahoo, likely because most of us are old enough to be the parents or grandparents of a teenager. We are also a diverse lot. We have Conservatives, Liberals, straight, gay, Tech-geeks, people who barely have the computer skills to net-surf, serious, silly… basically a nice little cross-section.
We all get along great, often agreeing to disagree before things get too out-of-control, and unlike many sites we have a decent, active mod staff who listen to complaints, and react as people instead of according to a script.
You guys and girls are great. :)
@Bent Guys and girls and me. and others not into the gender binary.
Fluther is much more mature than YA, smaller and not so active. But, quality beats quantity any day of the week. Welcome to the tidepool, @Bent
Actually, four. MissAnthrope. :) ^^
Hey @Bent. Welcome to the lagoon. Do you like cookies?
@Bent I do like cookies. And pancakes. And cake.
The lesbian “super trio” refers to a specific person/event. We don’t mean to exclude anyone.
@Bent: and pancakes!?! Your gonna fit right in.
Welcome @Bent. As the discussion you have read so far demonstrates, Fluther is amazing. I hope you will love being here with us.
…and now that we’ve got all the formalities and pancakes out of the way, It’s orgy time. Everyone, prepare your bodies!
My body and toys are prepared.
Allow me to drape myself across this fortuitous chaise lounge.
< Representing the bi community.
So, there’s your answer. Fluther is about food and orgies.
We love us some lesbians and a good recipe, especially Lebanese food, hee hee ; p
As all of the responses here prove, this place is actually an identikit of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.
“I’m popeye the sailor man…...toot, toot!”
I prefer to believe that this place is an example of the Law of the Conservation of the Intelligence Quotient.
By definition, an IQ of 100 is both the median and arithmetic mean of all people. It is well known that certain places on the Internet, such as Youtube and Y!A, have average IQ’s that are demonstrably, as well as significantly, lower than 100. This means that there must be other places on the Internet that have enough intelligence to bring the average back to 100, as is required by definition.
And, now, Lebanese (or as we like to call it, “Lesbian”) Salad:
Romaine lettuce
minced garlic
chopped tomato
blend of a good olive oil and lemon juice
and crumbled blue cheese
ENJOY!
LOL Lesbian Salad! I can see all kinds of lesbian culinary delights popping up all over fluther!
@PhiNotPi it seems like 12 is not just the average age of a YA user but also their average IQ as well.
@Jude That salad is making me very hungry right now!
Not sure if This is considered Lebanese cuisine or not, but this pita sandwich sure looks inviting, although this pita sandwich looks even tastier : P
Wait, wait, wait… I got myself all ready for an exciting, dirty orgy, and now people are talking about food. WTF?
Food orgies happen. I had a nice Caesar Salad with Teriyaki Steak Tips yesterday.
Oh yeah? Well my husband took me on a date and I ate this truly delicious crabcake sandwich. It was warm and garlicy, on a brioche bun with a creamy, dreamy remoulade sauce spread all over it. Mmmm. Simply mouthwatering. Then we had the Godiva cheesecake for dessert. I think my mouth just had an orgasm.
To the OP…this thread is classic Fluther! Hope we answered your question.
I’ve seen you on other threads…hope you stick around. :)
It’s not “classic” until Dutchess puts on her thong and streaks through the mansion!
LOL! Or in the Frizzer with Shells!
Ain’t happenin’ Nina!!!!
@Kardamom Thank God, I was afraid I was about to be Rick-rolled . . .
A lot more diverse of a community. Usually deeper answers but not so great for technical stuff. We mostly seem to be surfing for fun or really off the wall crazy questions. You’ll definitely find better argued answers, even if you find that they don’t agree with you. You can learn more about the type of argument.
Fluther has never failed me :) I feel comfy and cozy here. There’s a little bit of everything. It serves its purpose well and is also a fun and everchanging community. I think it’s pretty cool and I really enjoy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Exclamations!!!!! Also if I didn’t have Fluther I would have nowhere to showcase the awesome drawing that is my avatar right now.
Rick-rolled @Kayak8? Especially curious since my husband’s name is Rick!
@deni…LOVE your avatar!!!!
I love how the best Fluther threads are the ones that end up de-railing into the topic of food.
Oh…my next stop is to pick up my Canadian Bacon, Egg and Cheese croissant to eat at work. Yum yum!! I’m out!
@downtide: So to answer the original question…
“What is Fluther like, as a community?”
Answer: Hungry
I’m planning to make some sweet potato chili today. Never tried it, hope it’s good.
Everybody here is having pizza tonight except me. :(
@Dutchess_III Your goal for tomorrow is to make homemade pizza! With cheese, cheese and more cheese! Your lasagne answer got me to thinking about blue cheese on either pizza or lasagne, not too much because it would be overwhelming, but mixed in with the ricotta, and the mozzarella or even some Gruyere it would be divine. And make sure you put some fresh mushrooms onto that cheesy disk of goodness : P
We just made Spanish chicken casserole. Dinner is organised.
