Why do some DVD's not have a skip preview option?

Asked by AshlynM (10684points) February 26th, 2012

I know it’s probably because it’s to get you to go out and buy the movie or watch it in the theaters, but is there no way to skip the previews at all? No matter what buttons you push on the remote control, you can’t skip them at all.
Sometimes they can be a half hour long.

Try pushing the “chapter forward” or “skip” button. That always works for me. It may not work on every DVD, but I’ve never had it not work on my DVD player.

Simply hit the chapter advance forward button on your remote. If they have locked this feature, hit the top menu button and select the scene sellection option and pick chapter 1.
It is all about marketing their new productions. It is annoying t me. I rip copies of all my DVD’s and remove that auto preview function.

It’s about adertising. They program the DVD so that you can’t skip it so you have to watch the adds. Generally the Menu button will work, if there are 2 menu buttons use one that says root or something simmilar.

I occasionally rent movies from the RedBox or the Blockbuster cabinet at the supermarket. I have noticed that many of those DVDs are altered to stop you from accessing the special features, or from skipping the previews.
However, most DVDs don’t let me skip the legal stuff, which is annoying.
Have you noticed this problem with a DVD you have purchased? I haven’t, though I have literally thousands of DVDs.

Even when it doesn’t let you skip directly, they’ve always let me fast fwd through them.

This very issue annoyed me yesterday. I watched my Human Centipede 2 DVD yesterday, and I had to sit through four effing previews for movies I’m not at all interested in.

If I paid for the DVD, I shouldn’t be forced to sit through adverts, hydro-electric-power-plant it!

Reason enough to acquire a DVD ripper and rip the DVD to your hard drive.

Actually, why don’t DVD players ignore what the DVD wants, and let the owner skip to the menu any time?
