How should I go about layering area rugs?

I purchased a Persian rug online and it looks as though it’s a tad bit small for my space. I do want to use that rug there, and was wondering how I could go about layering rugs. My rug is a 4×7. It’s a small space, at 11 feet wide (from wall to wall), so, I don’t have a lot of room to play with as far as width.
Here is a link to the rug. Scroll down to get a better look.
Any suggestions? What rug would you layer it with? How would you go about placing the rugs?

Personally, I like the look of a hardwood floor border around my various oriental throw rugs.
LIke this Forget the distractions and check out the dhurrie rug
Painted floor cloth; same room
Master BR; 4’ x 6” rug stops at left side of bed. There is another one about 3’ x4’ on the other side. The lack of symmetry doesn’t seem to matter.
Hi Gail, this is what the room looks like, to give you a better idea. As you can see, the rug is a bit too small.
The rug looks very nice in front of the sofa; just shove the chest a little to the right to make it centered.
What do you see when you are sitting on the sofa and facing the other end of the room?
Also what’s the view? Is it nice enough to be incorporated into the look of the room.
My large windows look out onto fields, huge old white pines, second growth woods and flower beds so I consider that when I, occasionally, want to clutter up the public rooms.
For me, at least, less is more.
Lots of bare wood, particularly when your floors look to be in beautiful shape, is very attractive. Plus, if gives Frankie a change to makes lots of clinking noise when he charges around after invisible mice.
Thank-you! I’ll get a few shots of the view from the sofa.
In the meantime, my neighbour’s cat, Xena, up for a visit.
MIlo here; Now that’s one cute babe. And, like me, she meows on G#.
@Jude was that your voice?
I think the rug’s size is OK where you have it placed. If there is too much open bare wood floor for you, then why not add another rug beside the first? Perhaps leave some space between them?
