Where could I go to sell old clothes?

Asked by nighttripper (162points) May 23rd, 2008

I know it sounds greedy but I don’t want to donate them. I have no job and need some sort of money. Is there any chain type place or somewhere just in MA or RI that I could sell them to?

Look up consignment and resale clothing stores in your yellow pages. It would really be easier to get more possibilities locally. I found the Closet Upstairs
223 Newbury St, Boston, MA 02116–2568, Phone: (617) 267–5757, Closet Exchange 931 Great Plain Ave, Needham, MA 02492–3031, Phone: (781) 444–0367 and this one in Rhode Island.

Is the clothing vintage?

If you have a lot of good stuff it would be worth your while to sell them to a store in NYC next time you’re in the area. It’s amazing how much something like an old pair of Nikes can fetch these days. Otherwise, have you tried any of the local vintage stores in Boston? If they buy, they typically accept sellable threads from you and pay you a percentage,-on the spot-of what they will price the item at. The one I go to gives me 35%. If you get the hang of it you can raid garage sales and thrift stores to make some extra cash.

Good luck

buffalo exchange buys old clothes. they got stores in a few cities.

Buster’s idea is good because that store buys new and vintage. They basically buy what they think is “cool.”
