General Question

I found this mysterious file on my computer. What is it? and how can I undo any damage it might have done?

Asked by noodle_poodle (1617points) March 3rd, 2012

So I found CORE10k Application (.EXE) in my downloads file. I clicked it because I had just downloaded an open source program and thought that it was that. A window flashed open for a minute and then dissipated. I am worried that its some kind of malware or virus but non of my scans picked it up and it doesn’t appear to have done anything.

Is there anyway I can check to see what it did?

It’s seems to be a keygen (for Adobe creative suite 5 programs). A keygen is a program that generates serial numbers so you can install a computer program without having to pay for it. Most antivirus will report keygens as malware (often as a trojan) and they are sometimes used to deploy malware to unsuspecting users but from looking at the comments on TPB this one seems to be genuine keygen. So you might have been lucky this time but the number one way to avoid problems is not to run programs that you don’t recognise, don’t know where they cam from and don’t know what they do.
