Does anyone have a solution for the creeping of the fitted sheet?

Asked by Ponderer983 (6416points) March 5th, 2012

I have tried the straps that hook on to the corners (but they unsnap or ony keep part of it in place). I have yanked the fitted sheet as hard and as far under as I could, but it starts creeping up the side and I wind up with a lot of excess sheet under me in the middle of the bed. Any helpful tips?

Are you a thrasher while you sleep? If so, there’s no solution but to remake the bed every morning.

@gailcalled No I’m not. I tend to be very still.

Maybe you could get larger fitted sheets. More fabric, less strain.

sleep on the couch.

Sheets for deep mattresses, with elastic on every edge (not just in the corners) seem to help.

Does your mattress have a sag or low spot in the middle? You can get better support by placing a piece of plywood under the mattress in the center. It will lift the top surface up and reduce the sag. That might help reduce the sheet pulling.
Sleep tight.

You need a better more expensive sheet most likely. What @augustlan suggested should do the trick. Measure how deep your mattress is and buy a sheet that will fit an even deeper mattress. Remember to allow space for any mattress covers you have on your mattress. Mattresses today are ridiculously thick. The one on my bed is still 12”, but it was really hard to find when I was in the market for a mattress a few years ago. What @LuckyGuy wrote also makes sense, but I am guessing you are happy with your mattress comfort, and may not want to change it by adding a board.

@LuckyGuy and @JLeslie My mattress is brand new, so the sheets are new and not cheap because I had to get the ones for the deeper mattress. @augustlan It has elastic all the way around. Hmph! I’m going to have to do some inspecting this weekend and see what I can rig up.

Since you purchased a new mattress, did you invest in a quality mattress pad? Mine makes all the differene in how the sheets fit. The sheets stay in place longer. I no longer have to fully remake the bed each morning. In the long run, the pad will also protect your mattress.

Are your sheets super silky or slippery? Possible the type of fabric you chose is causing the slipage.

Big safety pins on the effected side should stop it in its tracks.

Works here.

@Ponderer983 Oh, that must be very frustrating to just have laid out all that money, and the sheets don’t stay in place. I only had that problem with one set of sheets, and the quality was not great, so that is where I got that idea from.

Make sure to buy only sheets measured to be deep enough for the thickness of the mattress. And even then, I have to re-make the bed frequently.

Trust me, these work great!!!!

@Earthgirl huh – interesting. I have to look at the bottom edge of the mattress to see if those will fit on. Thanks!
